Power Steering Reservoir Overflow

Is it just me, or do you other N54 drivers get overflow on your power steering reservoir after tracking? Other than wiping it up later, is there a bigger reservoir?

How much should be in there? Any idea how much is leaking out?

It happens. Just get an old sock and put it over the cap(maybe with a rubber band around the sock). The cap has a hole on the side - when the PS fluid starts to boil... the fluid escapes thru that hole.

Happens all the time. It'll go away when it gets low .

This thread shows a good solution:

I use a similar approach but skipped the catch can. I just run a longer tube down to where a bit of fluid escaping won't be noticed.

does the fluid actually boil or is it from the g force from corners moving it around? if it's boiling shouldn't we be changing it?

Well... I don't know for sure... but I think it boils. Yes, we should change the PS fluid. But most people don't - ever. I would change it by using a suction hand pump and use the correct BMW fluid(written on the cap).
