Key Word = PREDICTED. Consumer Reports is not the Bible that determines resale value nor are they Nostradamus. I literally placed my order two days ago for a 135i and I don't regret the decision at all. Plus, a car is not an investment.

If that's the case, then it was also garbage data when CR gave the 135i an incredible overall score of "98" back in '08-'09.

This board has been a litany of grief over the HPFP for years. To act like this is unfair press coverage belies all of the anger at the way BMW has handled this since Day One.

If this is an actual fix, then re-sale will bounce back. If we come back in six months and people are still having pump failures, the N54 will become a pariah as the auto industry press will be all over BMW now. I certainly do hope it's fixed, because it hurts the entire brand.

Don't forget the N55 TM30. It's just a matter of time before BMW labels it as an HPFP problem engine as well. Now, if they come out with a fix, the N55 will be saved. I just don't see that happening though. Almost 4 years and BMW is still with their heads up their asses.

Would still say it's garbage if they rated it the greatest car ever produced.

And as far as the HPFP issue, it is sensationalist because despite everything that has been said, it's still a vocal minority of owners, egged on by a bunch of greedy lawyers seeing dollar signs, that have a problem. And BMW has said all along they will fix it if it breaks. But now we will all be hurt regardless if BMW fixes the problem permenently or not. Nobody forgets these things that have been on TV.

According to the latest from CR, the 135i predicted reliability is 100% below average. This is the worst showing for a vehicle in CR history.

Wow, I thought we were all enthusiasts here?
If you're in it for the resale value, you should've bought a Honda.

What's wrong with leasing a car? In some cases it makes perfect sense, others...not so much. I'd never lease a car just because the resale value isn't as good as I'd hoped, though.

I could care less about resale value on a car like this - reliability, however, is another story, and part of the reason I stayed away from the N54 engine (saving money was a plus, of course).

It will be interesting to see how big a thorn this becomes in BMW's side. I see shades of Corvair here. Of course, BMW can't make this go away just by killing off one model - the faulty technology is spread throughout their entire product line.

The company's failure to get ahead of this problem after so many years is a bit baffling and, as somebody pointed out, it's hurting the brand as a whole. Here's hoping for a definitive fix sooner rather than later...

A lot of enthusiasts tend to swap cars often so resale value is of importance. But I think resale value is important regardless of who you are or what kind of car you buy.

I guess all those broken tail lights on the 08/09 cars really did a number on the predictions.

In July of this year I bought my 08 135i as a CPO with 12k miles on it for $29,000 OTD.

Original MSRP was $38,500

I now have 15k miles on it on it. No major issues, one cracked rim, and a few open recalls done (not the HPFP).

Id say in a private sale the car is now worth $27k and $25k trade in. I don't expect it to fall much more over the next year. When I do trade it in for a CPO M3 or S5 in Spring of 2012 i'll prob get like $21k trade in on it.

Thats only a $8k loss on it over 20months = $400 per month out of pocket and I had a car covered under warranty and maintenance plans.

Seems like a better value than leasing, cause a 24month lease is gonna cost you $600 per month within nothin down.

Its definitely the best value to own these cars after the initial year or two of depreciation. That way you still have a car 100% covered by BMW but pay a fraction of the cost. Basically outperforming the others around you that buy them brand new in terms of loosing less equity.

Huh? What the heck does "100% below average" mean? That would be a zero.

Hmmm...so my sales guy was fibbing when he said the car would hold its value because it was a "BMW." Not like other cars...way better.
Good thing I didn't buy it for that reason nor did I fall for his claim.
I do have much higher expectations of my BWM than I did of any other car I've owned. "The Ultimate Driving Machine" motto creates expectations that have to be met otherwise it's a let down.
Oh well, it might not be pure "JOY," but it sure is a lot of fun when the engine is revs and the car handles so damn 'good.'
