As another early member of the Aussie forum I totally agree with zuzu. Andrew was a wealth of information when we were all scratching for every bit of info we could get on the 1er coupe.
I am a bit in the dark as to what happened as I completely missed the "offending" thread. Surely it couldn't have warranted such drastic action with no warning. Could we start a petition or a poll maybe?

I can probably help fill you in with what I DO know though... One of the good things that remained, post-merger with bimmerpost... 1addicts does not have a vendor sponsorship program. The rest of Bimmerpost does tho (and it is very strict, since all vendors are required to pay decent chunks of $$ to even post anything, even non-solicitous). If Andrew began posting ANY commercial posts outside of 1addicts, he would have been immediately banned, by their rules. Does anybody know if that is the case? Btw, claims of Mods reading other people's PMs are total BS. The functionality doesn't even exist to do that. |

I don't get it. I really don't.
I see HUGE amounts of commercial posts here - from people much like the background of Andrew's. But Larryn your comments confuse me - why would Andrew be banned for commercial posts outside of 1Addicts? That doesn't make sense. And if he's posting commercially inside of 1Addicts, i highly doubt he was. I've seen blatant offenders in 1Addicts and nothing's been done to them (JB3 posts, iCarbon etc). Sorry, may be completely confused here and I may be just being stupid, but a bit of clarification on the rules would be good |

If he started a strictly solicitous thread at 1addicts, outside of the commercial area, he would have been infracted (given a warning). Back in my moderating days, I distinctly recall being asked (by members and Aussie vendors) if Oz vendors could post in the Oz forum. It was heartily discussed and denied, as it would create a precedence and a gray line that other vendors would undoubtedly exploit. If Andrew had already had an infraction (warning issued) on file, then he could have been banned for posting a commercial thread on 1addicts, outside of the commercial area. The stickied post at the top of that forum is very simple and clear. Why doesn't somebody ask Andrew what he did? These bannings are not done without provocation. |

Thanks for the clarification Larryn.
Such a shame that a nice friendly community of like minded 1er owners can get shat upon from a great height by rampant commercialism.

As the member that introduced Andrew to this forum, he needs to come back, pure and simple. He's the biggest source of knowledge in this entire forum. As many others have said, he's often gone above and beyond with his exemplary customer service.
If not, we need to move to another forum.

I don't know Andrew. I've never spoken to him. I've never bought anything from him (although that could change soon). I don't even live in the same state as him. But I do know that he's a wealth of knowledge, and as much as one can tell from a forum, seems to be a very genuine and thoroughly decent person. I also know that his contribution has been a huge help to me, both pre and post purchase.
As for the rules about commercial posts go, is it just me, or is there more than one set of standards in play here? It'd take about 2 nanoseconds to find a thread on the e90 forum where the owners / manufactures and their distributors of the various piggyback offerings (2 in particular, and IMHO 1 is much worse than the other) are blatently promoting their offering, pushing their virtues, and dumping on the other. All under the guise of "offering information". The commercial intent of these venomous exchanges is about as subtle as a train smash. But for the most part, it's tolerated. In fact it's usually board members that try to curtail the river of bile that flows. Does it get any more hypocritical than that. Maybe http://www.n54tech.com/forums/ would welcome an influx of antipodean enthusiasts, including one that is able to contribute as much as Andrew. Just my thoughts. |

You know not what you speak of, in any minute sense.
If you want it set up like e90post, where vendors are required to pay to post, and you never know if you're being responded to by a shill for a product, then tell the Admins that. They would probably love the extra revenue. Personally, I hate the arrangement over there, where vendors are allowed to post a certain number of posts-per-month based on how much they pay, and those with deeper pockets get to spam with no abandon. (please let that sink into your heads) If Andrew got nabbed for PMing folk in a solicitous manner, he deserved getting banned, and those PMs were not sniped by somebody reading PMs behind the scenes, somebody turned him in because they did not want that unsolicited PM. I'm sure that Andrew read this incredibly simple post and chose to ignore it, if he was soliciting via PM. He got reported by somebody, and was banned. That stickied post is not rocket science, and he blatantly broke the rules, like 'em or not. It's by those rules that this site has prospered as a group of like-minded enthusiasts, free of getting jumped on by many vendors. I've been a member of a few sites that if you simply posted that you were thinking of buying a particular add-on, you immediately got a dozen PMs and a handful of vendors replying in the thread. I'm positive some of you must have experienced the same. Who the freak needs that BS? I certainly do not. You guys want to leave because one person knowingly broke one of the cardinal rules that make this site decent? I'd suggest that you do leave then. |

I agree - we certainly don't need spammers and particularly unsolicited PMs floating around. However, while I may be proven wrong, to me Andrew sounded like the type of guy that wouldn't have done any of that. Perhaps it's time we start an Australian 1 series forum elsewhere. |

Nah it's more than easy to do - have run 3 forums in the past few years for groups about 30-50 people in size. The only time spent doing it is setting up the shell & structure. We just need to ensure people acutually migrate, and trust me, that's harder to do than it sounds. People are VERY lazy when it comes to online stuff (hence why they're online ) |
