New found respect : 118d loaner

I was given a 118d loaner today whilst the M3 is being serviced.

What a little pearler! Huge torque for a 1.8L 4 pot.... I can only imagine what a 123d is like.

If they ever bring the 335d to Oz in the next 3-series I will give it some SERIOUS thought.

My wife had a 120d for a while - and it was an absolute great car. A little laggy at times, but once you are in the rev range - it really goes! On top of that, it only sips its oil and usually one tank will last 700-900km depending on how much highway/city driving you do. I would have got her a 123d if it was out when she changed her car.

BTW, what happened to the i30?

Traded the i30 in on the Kizashi. The i30 was 2 years old - which, judging by some members here, is a bloody long time to have a car!

I too was impressed by a 118d! Shame it is only hatch though. I had a 123d loaner once too, but didn't like it as it was non-sport hatch. Nevertheless, awesome engine!

I had a 320d Coupe and previously 330d Sedan as loaners.

Wow - absolutely awesome!

I found the 23d engine in the X1 I drove to be pretty tasty for an oiler.

Detuned 2.0L 4 pot

Haven't driven the single turbo oilers, but the 123d M-sport coupe I had as a loaner was bloody awesome fun. BMW sure knows how to make a sporty diesel.

Also, they gave you a 118d for your M3? That's a bit of an unfair trade! I've experienced the 123d and Z4 sDrive30i so far as loaners, hoping for something good next time as well.

still, question remains... Were you initially offended by them offering a 118d while your M3 went in?

Not so much offended but disappointed. On three occasions I have requested a 320d as a loaner and always been given something else. I guess the 7 BMWs that I have bought from them since 1999 stands for nought.

People like me are always looking at the next BMW and Marketing 101 would suggest my demographic should be given something better than what I already drive. Since getting the xDrive40d I have expressed a keen interest in looking at a 330d or even an F10 oiler. I'm not going to be happy with a test drive around the block so I guess its up to them.....

On another note....the M3 had it's annual service and I opted for an oil change since it's been 16,000km since the last change plus a track day at around 13,000km. The report said the oil was good with no sludge or particulate matter. What did my head in was that the front pads were at 12mm...they are 15mm new! Anyone who knows Barbagallo Raceway can tell you it is one of the toughest tracks on the brakes with two downhill corners. I think next year I'll be braking harder and later!!

Pretty sure my SA understands this fact. That's why he keeps flogging me Z4s as loaners, last time I took my dad's car in for him they gave me a 35i with DCT for the day Very unlikely I'll trade up but I'm not complaining.

Especially after having a track day you should be doing an oil change. Your brake pad life however, is a surprise. PUSH THE PEDAL THROUGH THE FIREWALL!

I gotta try Worthington next time. Just to get a great loaner. I've had a mixed bag - 118d, 123d, 320i, 320d 'vert, 325i FULLY LOADED with options.

the loaded 325i wins without a doubt. next would be the 118d.
