Wider tyres on 261s. Who's doing it?
Hey guys..
Reading from this thread ( http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=581889 ) people are actually using wider tyres on the stock 261 wheels. Are any of you doing it or have done it before? Is there any benefit over stock sizes? Last edited by dh58; 09-13-2011 at 01:23 PM.. |

GRIP! Wider rubber means a wider contact patch and hence greater levels of grip. The power 135i put down stock and a lot more so with a tune can always do with more grip.
The factory setup is usually conservative so you can usually a go a 10-15mm wider on the wheel. |

10-15 on the stock 261s? Or 10-15 before you run into space issues on any wheel? Last edited by dh58; 09-13-2011 at 01:23 PM.. |

What are the 208s?
I went 10mm wider on my 261s. No problems. This is what most people do.

The extra width people perceive will give more grip but it's not something you'd actually be able to measure, usually you'd ditch the run flats and get better tyres which gives the grip. For me it was availability, the MPSS weren't available in stock size and the rims can accommodate the extra 10mm width, so I went wider with lower profile percent to still get close to stock rolling circumference. Pick the tyres you want, then get as close to stock size for a daily driver. |

are you sure? there aren't really any tires on the market that fit the oem wheels in aspect ratios 35 and 30, respectively. (245/35-18 and 285/30-18 are the narrowest tires commonly available for those aspect ratios, and those are way too wide for oem wheels). i'm guessing you stuck with the oem aspect ratios, meaning your front and rear aspect ratios are still 40 and 35, respectively...

yeah, I'm running 225/255 Z1's, no issues at all.
edit: well 1 issue, the car is now a little too fast around corners to push to the limit on the road.
