Special technique/tool to adjust Front Rebound

To those who are running Coilovers, or adjustable shocks where the adjustment is at the top of the shock.

How are you guys adjusting the rebound? It is very tight, and cannot access the rebound knob from the top because of the OE strut bar going to the frame.

It appears like needle-nose pliers or something similar is going to be needed...

Any tricks/tips? It just seems that the fronts are going to always be a pain to adjust. I'll get pics if anyone needs

Yeah, the pliers are the crap ass way I've been doing it.

Long term, the Mason Engineering bar is the real fix:
http://masonengineering.net/Subpages/E82.htm

Proper non-hinged strut tower brace with new firewall arms that do not cross over the top of the shock. Agitating they didn't ship from the factory with something similar.

So you got the bar w/the custom short firewall arms?

$550 is just annoying to solve this issue....

At least the bar looks nice.

Will eventually, it's low on the priority list. I agree that the car should not have had the problem from the get go. The only real silver lining that I can think of is that in the end, with a proper brace, we will have 4 points of contact, which is pretty awesome.

Mason has always made nice things since the E30 days. The serious choice vs the usual bling bars.

See the link below. Should work on all Koni based coilovers. You can unbolt the sway bar and move it over enough to reach the top adjuster.

my eibachs come with a small pin i adjust the rebound with which is easy to get in their for one or two clicks....i usually just unbolt the brace and you can usually move it 1-2 inches to either side to get access.

HP autosport i believe also has a strut brace that is almost the same as the stock one except has a ring which goes around the strut tower mounts instead of over it.

That tool is when you max out the camber plates and cannot get the plastic koni adjuster over the adjuster.

What you're saying is that I can unbolt that firewall brace and it will be able to slide a bit to adjust and I can rebolt it?

I'll investigate about unbolting that brace.

Update.

I'm able to unbolt the brace, and use an EZ-Access 6mm 1/4 wrench to get to the rebound and easily adjust that way.

Kinda of a half-ass method, but it will work.

I didn't like that method as much as the needlenose as you have to flex the firewall bar a bit, but it works.

M3/1M strut braces are a viable option.

Available from: http://www.hpashop.com/BMW-128i-135i...tbrace-e82.htm
Quite ridged and, near as I can tell, part of some sort of "rough road" package on lesser BMWs in other parts of the world (South Africa?).

The clue is toward the end of this post:http://billswebspace.com/335M3StrutB...stallation.htm
"Support bearing adapter (for rough road package)" E81 ,E82, E87, E88, E90, E91
,E92, E93.
I just haven't figured out to what market this applies.

Yeah, it's a decent option. My problem with that is that you are most of the way dollar wise to a Mason setup, and you have to hack up the stock plastic paneling a bit.

I just replaced the stock heater closing panel with these:
HEATER CLOSING PANEL 1 64316979758
Dome strut grommet, left 1 64316964415
Dome strut grommet, right 1 64316964416

I'm not a fan of hacking

The M3 bit would be far cheaper if we could find a source for the "rough road" package mentioned above. The BMW TIS page shown on the link specifically mentions the E82/88, so the mount for the strut brace must exist as a stock part somewhere. All the other stuff is inexpensive and readily available. I think that a certain vendor has actually found a source for the rough road stuff as the strut tower brace rings they supplied don't even have the little indents for mounting and positioning the ///M badges.

Historically, the rough road package is for cars bound for South Africa. That is where all the OE E46 shock tower reinforcements come from.

Here it is pictured on RealOEM. I suspect a little more research or a trip to a friendly dealer could sort this.

What's pictured in the realoem link above is the brace from a 1M. I decided to go that route instead of a full M3 brace because my main concerns were cost (~$220), access to adjustments and an OEM fit.

All of my research would suggest it fits just fine. All of the parts are on order and set to arrive the first week in April (the arms are special order). I will definitely confirm it fits or not when I get them.

The 1M brace fits the 135 with no issues or modification. See my new thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...2#post15734122
