going 225 / 255

I am considering this setup for my non-RFT purchase... Most likely going with the Sumitomo HTRZIII... when trying to place the order on Tirerack, they state that there will be an adverse decline in ride quality. For anyone here, can you verify Tirerack's claims that this is the case when compared to the stock RFTs?

Also was considering going with the Sumitomos up front and the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec in the rear.... what kind of negative issues would I have by doing this?

None that I am aware of...I am running 225/255 Bridgestone RE-01R on Breyton GTS-Rs and love the setup. No problems here

Ride quality is going to be better, not worst.

As for running two different kind of tires front and rear, I don't think there is a major problem with this, but I would not recommend it. And personally, while you're at it, why don't you just get Direzza z1 all around? Much better tires IMO...

That comment appears on the site to let people switching from standard tires to XL (extra load tires) that their ride quality could feel rougher due to the increase in sidewall stiffness. Unfortunately, it's not worded the best and leaves many people wondering what it means.

Your ride quality will be a lot better going from run flat tires to non runflats.

I have the same setup. Ride is pretty good, a bit softer in some ways, not as harsh over railroad tracks for example. There seems to be a bit more road noise, but it's not bad. Granted I don't have many miles on mine yet.

Anyone know if a 225/255 Direzza Z1 setup will fit without rubbing on the stock rims? It's about time for new tires for me, and I'l like to try the Star Specs, but I'm worried about the odd sizes. If that doesn't work, I'll probably just get S.Drives.

+1 to Gill. The Dunlops are cheap enough, and you aren't maximizing their tread pattern (according to the TR website) if you mix them, but do whatever makes you happy.

I have this set up and it works perfectly (225/40/18 and 255/35/18), no rubbing on stock suspension/wheels.

No, just back. I know most are doing 255/35, but any extra cushion from bumps would be helpful
