Clinched Widebody

Looking around at some things and noticed Clinched had put up a widebody. Has anyone done it? I searched but didn't pull up any threads besides their universal flares. I figured someone had to have done it since they produced it. And I'm sure it's not for everyone but I love it

There's a few that I've seen on IG from the states, not sure if they're 1Addicts members. I like the kit personally, but I first-handedly know the troubles of widening this car.. especially in the front. Nonetheless, looks good if you've got the wheels and suspension figured out - but way overpriced.

It's definitly overpriced, much like a lot of the things I want for this car what kind of troubles? I'm not a stranger to doing odd or difficult things to achieve what I want. I haven't pulled the trigger on a 1er yet because I haven't found exactly what I want but this stuff is good to know as I'm hoping to find my car by next summer.

Like I said, primarily in the front. Your wheels will rub if they're much wider than OEM well before full-lock steering. Not typically a big deal, but the oil cooler is found in front of the front right wheel, leaving it susceptible to damage. Other than that, it largely depends on how much of your fender you cut off for widebody. Mine rubs, but that's because of how narrow the opening of my flares are.

Interesting and good to know. Looks like there would be a good amount of room to cut away a large amount of the fender for this kit. Curious what others have done about the oil cooler issue though. Thanks for the info!

That's why you don't find cars with this kit or even this width. What you will find is a ton of 1M clones who are quick to judge the guys that put ///M badges on their cars but they're doing the same thing.

There's a limit to how much tire makes sense. Also a limit to front rear balance. This is a very wide kit. Not sure if it's possible to put wheels on the car with this kit that wouldn't be hugely staggered and simply introduce even more understeer.

I do really like the kit though. There's a guy that started one on here on a black 135. Never posted finished pics though. He had the widest possible apex wheels and they still weren't enough.

Not sure where you're going with the M badge comment Jorgensen.

I found his instagram. He's got 335's in the rear but it looks like the apex wheels he has fit fairly well, especially with how much tire he's got

Agreed. Seeing it on a real car, I'm a big fan of the kit.

Wouldn't say that I agree. Making a car look like something and calling it that thing are different in my eyes. I've made my Jetta look like a Jetta R (VW never made one but they made the Golf R) but I'd never think to put some kind of Jetta R badging on. Just my opinion on that.

No destination that I had in mind

You can't make the wheel well wider, just taller. I've fit 19x9.5 et22 with 265/30 tires and get no rub on the oil cooler grill on full turn. 19x8.5 et 30 with 245/35 rubs on the plastic vent. Very little room to play with.

Another issue is how to manufacture wheel well covers as even the 1m will come up short.

Overall, it's a great looking kit and done right gives the e82 chassis an exotic look

Yeah I saw the black ones cuts. The backside of the fender and top were cut for the flares. He's running decently wide rubber on those wheels so he's not running into an issue it seems. 275/35 up front. Not sure on the wheel width but they aren't stretched.

I'm assuming he's not running fender lines, I'm not right now. So that's not as much of a concern for me. Just nice to see something different. I love the 1er but people seem a lot more tame with it than the 3/4 series guys.

Looks good molded. Wish he would have stuck with the stock front bumper though. The kit is very well designed.
