Anyone with a BT Scan tool help me w/ battery?

As the thread title suggests, I am looking for anyone in the Long Island area with BT scan tool that can help me code in a new battery once I purchase it. I'll buy you a taco, or a pizza if you can help.

My battery is on its last legs and I would rather replace it myself than pay the dealership to do it.

Thanks in advance!

if you buy the same battery as you have now do you still have to code it?

how do you know that your battery is about to go?

Would you have to lock the vin to your car to code the battery?

I'd do it for a pizza and a 6 pack! Too bad I'm like 200 miles away. Haha.

To answer the how do I know my battery is about to go - It's the original battery (May 2009 Production), and when this last bit of cold weather came around it barely cranked to turn the car over. So, I can say with relative confidence it's only a matter of time before it doesn't start.

To answer the "if you get the same battery do you still have to code it?" question, my research has yielded this - the computer knows how old the battery is, i.e; when the last time a new battery was installed, and charges the battery depending on how old the battery is. In pre-school terms, f it's new, it doesn't get charged that much, if it's old, it gets charged a lot. So if you install a new battery but the car thinks it's an old battery, you run the risk of it being over-charged.

As for the guy who wouldn't waste his time for a taco - I wouldn't risk getting grease on my car driving through Scarsdale, so I guess we have a mutual disinterest.

Mike082802, I will send you a PM.

Correcto. That's the whole point of the regional forums, to help out fellow members. Also, he missed the grease reference. At least someone gets it.

Yup!

As mike082802 said, the BMWhat supposedly will code/register your battery and do it very easily.. just have to choose the size and that's it. PRoblem is, the APP is $49 and you need the adapter, either WIFI for iOS or BT for android. Also, I've read somewhere the the battery registration feature is an in-app purchase, but maybe it's included now. I'll be buying the app in a few days when I get my wifi adapter, so I can confirm, but I'm no where near you to actually perform the help.
