Your Preferred Fuel - Poll
Considering the opinions on 95 and 98RON, I thought it'd be pretty interesting to see what people's preferred fuel types/brands were.

I have used Caltex, BP Ultimate and Shell... All 98 octane. Mostly BP though. Can't tell the difference...

I use Caltex 98 or Shell V-Power (only because Shell is the closest servo to home).
I probably fill up about 80% of the time with Caltex 98/95. |

I've always used Shell 98 (even under it's previous name). The main reason being that at that stage, it was the most readily available product. I haven't changed because it's never given me any problems, and there are 3 places I can get it between home and work, and there's one in the suburb I live - so it's convenient.
That said, if someone shows me that there's a better option, and why - I'd happily switch. |

It may not be a catchy name, but amongst some of the WRX clan in Queensland, Shell 98 is referred to as "injector killer." Make your own conclusions from there.
I've had bad experiences with two of my previous cars with Shell.

I had issues with fuel in my bike (which normally runs happily on Oz 95 octane though I try & feed it 98), and was told by the Kwaka dealer there's a known issue with Shell 98 and to steer clear of it.
I've been told by a biochemist that; BP Ultimate is the best 98 octane available in Oz, is denser than other 98's here and that the additives that make it a 98 were less volatile/less likely to evapourate off over time to reduce the actual octane rating. Being a "cheapskate" and not having discount vouchers for BP like I do for Caltex & Shell, I rarely buy BP however. BP in my area is always significantly more expensive than the others regardless. I've only once put 95 in the 135 and couldn't feel a difference.

I never use vouchers as I hate the idea of giving the two money grubbers (Woolworths and Coles) any more of my retail dollar. For the sake of a few $$$ I'd rather stick to BP. Besides, I have a BP just down the road which is convenient. |

Hey how come your DSC button is down there? I thought they are all located with the hazard light button between the a/c vents.

What do you think of it btw? Must be a bit weird for the engine to 'stall' when you come to a stop.

VERY disconcerting at first, though you get used to it. it restarts VERY quickly, and I haven't caught it out yet, though I did discover that if you stall it on take off, it restarts automatically.

Shell 98 in winter, BP ultimate in summer.
BP "winterise" (they admit they do it but would not tell what it involves) their fuel which has had a detrimental effect on many cars. My modified Lib GT HATES BP in the winter.
