Smile Had enough of the silly games: can anyone recommend me a dealer in QLD for a new BMW?

I was wondering if someone could help me out by recommending / referring me to a dealer in QLD that would be willing to do a deal on a Z4 35is?

It seems to norm here to be getting around at least a 10% discount off list, especially on low volume cars. So this is what I am aiming for.

I am at an early stage of negotiation with my local dealer but he is only willing to give 4% which is weak considering I am a repeat customer. Plus he quoted me metallic paint for $3500 in writing...when I challenged him he tried to palm it off by saying that was the price for metallic paint AND Kansas leather (std option) which is just plain BS! By the time he apologised (after I went to the effort of explaining carefully that BMWs in general do not charge extra for standard leather in another email) I was already mistrusting and annoyed.

I read on here Coastline is good (Sparoz?) and willing to make deals happen.

I am sick and tired of the games dealers play: I am looking for a straight up deal and a deposit is theirs if the price is right.

Anyone willing to help me in the right direction or perhaps negotiate on my behalf?

Go interstate. Savings will more than pay the airfare.

There is a dealer in Sydney who in my experience will get to 10% off in about 10 mins. I got another 3% on top of that after another day of haggling.

Let your fingers do the walking :-)

Sorry, I have been trying to learn italian.

Try Tropical Prestige in Rockhampton. That's where I got my M3 from. Even with shipping to WA it was heaps cheaper than here. Interstate is the way to go.

Alex,

I know its a pain in the arse and it may sound cliche but just be prepared to walk and let them know you are talking to other dealerships (even interstate) and be ready to place a deposit there and then. I went through the same thing on my deal the other day. The list price on my car driveaway was 94k, I managed to get it for 83.5 (with an iphone adapter thrown in)

Let them know that you would service your car at their dealerships so they could recoup some money that way! I know it sounds like bullshit but it may work!

I'd even try a place like Geelong BMW. They don't sell a great deal of BMW's so to keep their BMW franchise they generally go pretty low on a driveaway price to get a sale through.

Hope that helps mate!

Steve

Unfortunately the "game playing" is unavoidable when buying a new car unless you are buying a very hot model with no discounts in which case the dealer is just an order taker. I don't think that you'll avoid the crap associated with dealers, you'll just get a different type of crap

Honestly if the new car buying process wasn't so painful I would consider changing my car more often than once in 5-7 years.

Alext, try Darren De Courcy at Motorline. Really impressed with him.

Kloster BMW in Sydney are supposed to be really good too.

Alex, if you want to try Geelong BMW as suggested above, contact Fergus Elder (03)52212111. They supplied my 125M sport for less than the 'main' melb dealer.

cheers

Shopping around

Agree with the above. Furthermore, do it via fax. Don't bother speaking to a salesman in the first instance. Detail the exact specifications you want, fax it to them asking for a price and request a reply via fax as well.

Make your fax generic and include a long list of dealers and their numbers on the address field. Just highlight each one (with something that will show up in black and white) and hit the fax machine. It makes it obvious to each dealer that you are shopping them against each other for a "best price" and that you haven't got the time or the inclination to speak with time wasting speculators.

Then when you get the lowest price in writing, see if your local dealer will match or better it.

I recommended to BMW in my customer survey resposne that they create an Online sales outlet - where they could pass the savings on to the consumer and increase there sales of cars. They could even put the demos or stock cars on Ebay like the yanks do.

Independent Service dealers then provide the support via central parts warehouse.

But i think the still believe the Hype that the dealership experience is still something customers need.

The amount of reviews, forum's & other information available dealers are really becoming obsolete IMHO.

My experience recently

Kloster were very keen, but walked away.
Northshore were unintertsted to begin with
Col crawford tried hard but were strange to deal with and pissed the wife off
Trivett not keen at all

Bottom line is the personality of the sales person, if they want your business they will get it. I am sure some of them just like the ambience of the showroom though and free car to drive.
Get a good one and stick with them -

JD

JD, I think Ford are running a trial of just that in the UK soon. Should essentially revolutionize buying a car.

This will work awesome with cars like Fiesta's, but ultimately in 'prestige' cars there are a lot of people that want that experience and want to feel special. I think they should offer both and let the buyers decide.

At least doing it alphabetically gets rid of the unpleasant, ill-informed and untrustworthy right at the beginning. Your experience can only get better.

Save your pennies on this interstate phone call. Being the only dealer in WA and with our car stamp duty the highest in the country, it's very hard for them to compete with other stealerships.

Cheers again guys!

With an election looming, car sales could very well slow down significantly so I might target them then.
