The big difference is in the trap speed. At the track a difference of 4-5mph can easily equate to 4-5 car lengths if both cars get off the line at the same time. The difference between a zed and modified 135i is at least 10mph... Huge difference. In stock form it's a lot closer than I thought it would be, but the 135i still pulls every time. Someone sent me a video of some runs they did ages ago.

2007 350z. the hr motor z's are faster, bone stock, than de-motor z's with all the bolt-ons. it was the only 350z that was even remotely interesting to drive. the 370z, on the other hand, is an animal. very nice car

we are so lucky with how easy it is to make big power. they'd be happy to make 40hp with a few thousand dollars in mods. |

I think it all depends on the driver. I had a little drag race (maybe a little more than 1/4 mile) in Zagreb, Croatia against a friend in his stock 6-speed 370z. I had him by about 2 car lengths. - Stock 2011 N55 6-speed

Tried to get an R8 V8 to race me yesterday, he wouldn't! I was on map 7 with E85 too! Would have been a pretty good race I think.

I've owned a G37S 6mt in the past as well as a 135i 6mt (prior to my 1M), and the 135i was much faster than the G37S stock for stock. You would beat a 350z with the AC on

I can't believe this thread is still going. Bench races are for ricers, guys. I wouldn't even put the 350Z in the same class as the 135i. It's like apples and oranges. The 350Z has a bit more low-end power than most cars in the 300HP range, but that's it... It all evaporates as you work your way up in speed, whereas the 135i just gets faster...
Not only is the 350Z not all that impressive; it's also hideous, and all too often the victim of "ricing." It's only redeeming quality, as far as I am concerned, is it's exhaust note. Aside from that, it's a cramped, funny looking two-seater with a stupid clutch, too much torque and not enough high-end power, and an interior chalk full of low quality plastic. To even compare it to the 135i is an insult. The 370Z, on the other hand, is a bit more worthy of a friendly competition, as the new Z has been cited by a few publications as the best "bang for your buck" sport coupe under $40k (thus beating the 135i). But even then... Well, I'll stick with my 135i. |

I just got my 135i about 3 months ago and think i can answer this question. The 135i is clearly a quicker car than the 03-06 350z, no doubt about that. What we need to worry about is the 07/08 Z's with the HR motor. My brother in law has an 07 Z and from a dig i take him every time. The HR cant match the 135's 1st and 2nd gear grunt. From a highway roll its a different story. He pulled on me every time because the HR really starts making power from 5k to 7.5k unlike our cars. Stock HR's have also been known to run low 13's in the 1/4 mile and trap at 106-108mph, definitely no joke.
Both our cars are stock 6 speeds btw. I found this video on youtube and this is an accurate of what happened to me. |

The only 370z I've managed to run was a Vert from a ~70-130 when I was stock. He got the jump (went on 2nd honk) and I still got him by 2.5 car lengths. Might have been an auto I'm not sure.
After I got my Intake/Exhaust I ran a Nismo 350z, and walked him quite badly 45-120. It was a manual but maybe he couldn't drive, so I gave him 2 runs and still got him by 4 or so car lengths. My brother still won't get me a shot at his G37 S lol... |
