Trouble filling the car at the gas station
Hi guys,
Anyone else have trouble filling their 128i? Every time I fill up the pump immediately starts clicking to tell you that the tank is now full. I have to hold the trigger very gently to stop it doing that. I have never had a car that was difficult to fill before. |

Been a problem with every bmw I've had at some stations. You can try turning the nozzle 45 degrees to the left (or try other angles if this doesn't work), or backing the nozzle out just a little before dispensing gas, or a combination of the 2.

Here what I have noticed. If I hold the nozzel up while im pumping it immediatly clicks. If I dont take any of its weight and let it sit then it pumps no problem 100% of the time.

I haven't had this problem at any station I've been to. I just put it in, make sure it's securely in place, pump the gas and place the holder in the lock position. It fills, unlocks and clicks.
I'm sure you're doing the same, maybe it's just location?

Different pumps will give different results. I had a pump at a Chevron station that never gave me any problems. Then the pump was recertified by the state, and it immediately started doing the quick shut-off. I think they have to calibrate them to reduce emissions (in addition to certifying accuracy), and the end result for some cars is that they are too sensitive. I just moved to another pump.

Had the same problem the first time I went to the pump. Tried a couple of things. Pulled the pump out, put it back in. Not sure what fixed it but will try the suggestions posted on this thread. It was definitely weird. Haven't had a problem since.

I have had this problem but rotating the nozzle or filling more slowly has always solved it.

Had that happen a few times at places with funky vapor recovery nozzles that didn't sit well. Been fine at others. Seems more touchy than other cars I've had, but I'm gonna blame the pump

Never ever happened to any other car I've filled up but it happens to my 1. The Chevron closest to my house doesn't do it, but seems like every other station I go to will. Workaround is to rotate the nozzle 45 degrees or so.

yeah i've had a lot of problems with that as well. Only happens at chevrons though. I just tweak the nozzle left or right so that it's at an angle. Usually that does it for me but sometimes I'll need to switch pumps as well..

That used to happen to me. You should take it in just to make sure nothing is wrong.

It happens to be me on a random basis. I get my gas mostly @ Costco gas stations. I don't know if it's the specific pump since the pump I use is mostly random.
