wow.

when I started this thread I had no idea it would show so much interest. I have absolutely zero updates since the last post. We have been working hard to get our new products released and it looks like thats almost done.

To do the project I have listed is technically possible, my company has the controller hardware to make it happen. we can already do that display on your laptop. To do that display on your NAV screen is going to require an adapter that allows your NAV screen to work as a PC monitor. I found one such company that makes one for the 135, however I have not the time yet to test it. My concern is quality of the conversion, etc.

oh you have interest for sure...that would make my nav screen more than an ipod interface since that's all I use it for! any idea on a completion/release date?

+1

My goal since the start has always been to built a carputer and integrate it with the OEM Nav screen. But your project adds some really awesome functionality to that.

Will definitely be interesting to see how well the conversion can work... How would you switch to the external video source?

With what you have seen so far, will an acer one be powerful enough to run the gauge setup?

This is one of those things that I want to do, however I dont think its going to be worth the investment to mass market. In the beginning I wanted to do this for my personal vehicle and if it works out if there was enough interest I would see about making a released product. At this time I have put my personal project to do this on hold. Its far to busy at this time.

The technology to do this exists, we have 75% of it available. The conversion from the NAV to RGB is available from a very slim number of companies, infact only one I know of does this for the 135 and uses true VGA rather than composit cables...I have not the time right now to tear my dash apart to install it.

I will revisit this project when I have time.

I always appreciate interest. This is one of those things that would be cool to do, I dont know the how economical it will be with it being a niche within a niche.

Understandable, theirs a pretty small market for modded 135i's with i-drive.

Just keep us up to date if there is any updates...

This is definatly something I would be interested in. All the extra bells and whistles are nice but just having a Boost EGT oil temp gauge and a shift light would be amazing.

If I had Idrive I would be PMing you daily for updates. I would pay big money for this option. I am currently looking for an oem looking boost gage.

Great work. I think the interfaces could use some UI improvement but it's going in the right direction. Make it more like Mac OS X and less like Linux/Windows sort to say.

Cool project - too bad you have to go around the various systems. I guess it isn't that hard for manufacturers to provide an API to their systems (that of course are read only). I like the idea of the ability to add widgets to your cars native systems, just to show the information you'd like to see on screen.

I'd be very interested in this and I'm sure so would the 3 series owners if it were possible to use the same kit for both cars. Maybe one day....
