I wasn't even talking about you BKsB...you just said you don't like the design...I've got no problems with that. I'm by no means saying everyone has to like it (though I can see where my first post implies that). I'm just saying certain criticisms just make no sense whatsoever (ie "it looks like a Civic).

This version is pretty sedate. I think the 335si will have more prickles and look the role of the extraordinary performer that it will be, as per GregA's description of the stiffer chassis -- incidentally, do we know if the reinforced rear bulkhead precludes the fold down rear seat option?

I agree that it still seems photoshoppy. Maybe that's from the awkward rear. By itself, it looks weird and it is not balanced with the front either.

The front is interesting; ksfrogman pointed out the cool changes they made there. I like them.

The back I am not so keen on yet with this limited exposure to it.

Then again I had a bad reaction to the E90 when I first saw it on magazine covers and now I own and love the design. So I'm holding my judgement for a while.

BUT, 270+ hp on the 330i??? Awwwwwwww man, thats LAME. Punks held out on us!

Yeah, here are some spyshots from WAAYYY back... we we're all flipping out about whether somehow, just somehow, BMW would fuck this up.

We had the real thing on our hands before anyone even realized it... this first link is almost a whole YEAR old, and it is 100% accurate so far.

Haha... me too!! I'm glad the model preference reversal finally occured the year I bought the sedan.

I notice the 325i will actually have a 2.5L engine in a coupe...

I wouldnt hold your breath on a 335si, at least not for a year or two minimum, if at all. All we know know is there is a 335i, nothing other than very very limited hearsay on a 335si.

Agree. Sedan with Blackline on looks better than the coupe. Now I'm happy with the sedan and not so excited about the coupe anymore. Good luck for those waiting for 335i, you'll get a better engine with lots more of $$$ to put in.

I like the look myself but I am still want to see "official" pics from BMW. I wonder if there are changes being made on the interior and new options/colors/wheels, etc.

Wow. I'll reserve final judgement until I see an actual car, but this is a disappointment. I mean c'mon...the rear end is so conservative. And frankly, its not great in profile either. The E46 couple looked purpose built. This looks like hastily modified 4-door. I concur with another poster...glad I got the sedan.

Okay, I'll be the first to say it.....chick car.

It looks as if we finally have some kind of official confirmation with the 335, but what got my attention was the bit about the 330i having 272 horsepower!

I have often thought that the 2007 330 would get a slight bump since the 1 series with the same uptuned engine gets something in the 260-ish range, but I didn't anticipate them getting into the 270's with only better tuning!

They list a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds and I was thinking that was pretty close to the current time using a manual, so I was wondering if:
-The 6.1 seconds refers to the automatic?
-OR The added horsepower doesn't add much of anything in terms of 0-60 performance

I would expect with a 15 or so horsepower increase you would see a .1 or .2 second difference in 0-60 times, but maybe I'm being optimistic?

It would be great if the new 330i with 272 hp made 0-60 in 6.1 seconds with an automatic! I would then have to reconsider if the extra 3K, 5K or 7K would be worth the extra power in the 335i. (I am assuming of course that the sedan version of the 335 will be appearing sometime this year as well. Could be a bad assumtion.)

Also, depending on the price difference between the 330i and 335i sedan, we could be looking at $1K marginal cost per tenth of a second 0-60 performance. That's pretty steep! I mean, that could buy a nice plasma tv!
The numbers listed on the site are European specs, i.e. it is a 0-100km/hr number and not 0-60mph. Also, horsepower numbers are measured slightly differently. Granted both are close, but not exactly.

I want to see the US specs for the car... Any idea when an official press release from BMW for the US market is due?

they list it at 6.1 because thats for marketing purposes... bmw ALWAYS puts higher 0-60 times in their releases, but i bet you that 272hp will be in 5.4s range and 306hp will be in 5sec range

Roundness is good as I love the round Z3 design.

That's the part I really don't like. I like how the e90 front/hood lines look, much more uniform. The rest of the e92 looks good, though. I really like the profile.

Ha Ha, that is funny-a complete reversal of roles, when the first 4 door 3 series was introduced, it was/looked awkward; like someone added two extra doors on the coupe (which is exactly what happened).

Each successive generation made the sedan look less like an afterthought; with the e46 the sedan looked like the 3 series was designed with it in mind.

Now it looks like the coupe is the afterthought... I will also wait for the official release, but the profile to me looks weird-too much space between the door and rear wheel well. Love the front and back.

I think the front end looks more masculine than the rear end. with a look similiar to 7 series rear end, it looks more upmarket, hence, i feel less sporty and raw. BMW germany obviously are pitching this against the classy merc CLK. wish they had a more aggresive rear end design, rear looks soft as cheese to me. i think women would love this design as it identifies with their feminine personality. i hope beemer boys in munich will pump up some beef in the design of the m3, or i will be sorely disappointed!

I believe the hp increase from 255 to 272 hp is achieved by incorporating DI (direct injection), hence the engine will be designated N53. It appears to give a 0.2 sec advantage 0-100kmh according to the numbers in the carscoop article compared to BMW.com's site. Those numbers are of course for the manual tranny.

Unfortunately, from what I understand, the N53 will debut in Europe first, while being delayed for North America till 2007/2008 due to delays in lowering the sulphur content in the fuel here in North America.
