Track car
I'm considering upgrading from my E36 M3 to a 1M. My question is, how are they for track duty? I've seen lots of guys with 135's and 335's have lots of trouble with cooling issues with their N54's. Should I expect the same issues with a 1M?

Oil temps will approach 275F (ambient temp 95F+) but no limp mode. Front BBK, camber plates, upgraded brake fluid, NT01s.
The factory oil cooler and aux radiator seem to do the job. I'm considering upgrading radiator [CSF 7045] and/or the aux oil cooler [CSF 8042] to promote longevity, though. |

Depending how hard you are driving the car is fine in regards to cooling. Ambient temps and the track layout will have an effect too. I upgraded the oil cooler just to be safe.
I and a former 1M owner experienced an intermittent oil pressure drop at COTA (T11) that caused a limp mode. It's a high braking zone into a hard left turn. The oil level could have been slightly low (you never know without a dip stick) but it was enough to make me install a pan baffle but this was the only track I had seen this. If you don't over use your brakes they are fine with better fluid, cooling ducts and Ti insulators but I eventually got a BBK. First mod should be a charge pipe.
