Official 135i Weight Loss Thread/ Lightest 135i List

I borrowed this from another forum I frequent because 1addicts needs a thread with all the weight loss stuff consolidated.

Want to trim some weight off of your 135i? You aren't alone. This thread is for detailed inputs on weight reduction for the 135i. Please no guesstimates or they wont be added to the list.

WHY IS WEIGHT LOSS IMPORTANT?!?!?!?!?!?!
Ive been wondering how weight loss translates in terms of hp so I did some rough calculations that might be interesting to you all. If you assume a 3500 lb car with 500 hp, each 100 lbs of weight loss translates to this amount of power. Math experts please correct me if I'm wrong.

Weight....actual HP.........lbs/hp.............relative power
3500.......500.................7.0................ .500
3400.......500.................6.8................ .514.7
3300.......500.................6.6................ .530.3
3200.......500.................6.4................ .546.9
3100.......500.................6.2................ .564.5
3000.......500.................6.0................ .583.3

So a 300lb weight loss is the equivalent of adding 47 hp if my calculations are correct. Interesting to note that going from 3500 to 3400 is only equivalent to 14.7 hp and going from 3100 to 3000 is equivalent to gaining 18.8 hp.

Requirements for being included in the weight loss thread. #1 Replacement Part #2 Brand of said part i.e. Recaro seats, Brembo BBK #3 Actual weight difference between both parts, weight lost by installing new part or the weight of the new part itself.

This method will allow us to eliminate some of the guess work for those of us trying to trim some weight.

This will be a good reference once we get some more stock weights. I'll try to get my scale out soon and weigh my back seat and my stock axleback that I have removed.

Wheels and tires and FMICs are the main areas you left out.

We also have to figure in weight gains. Aftermarket FMIC's and donut spares are probably the biggest gains any of us take on.

I'd like for iCarbon to develop a CF sunroof glass replacement. That and a lightweight battery is probably about all else I'll do to lose weight in the next few yrs.

I always just heard every 100lbs is a 10th of a second in the 1/4 mile.

Your weight savings on this car unless you get REALLY drastic is really gonna max out around 150-170 lbs if you do ALL of the non invasive (like swapping roofs) stuff listed above. Maybe 200ish if you get lightweight wheels.

Thanks for the input, I was debating on whether or not to include wheels/tires in this thread since there are SO many options out there. I guess a few wouldn't hurt though. I weighed my back seat today, it's on here. And I've been trying to get a CF sunroof glass replacement made for sometime now with no luck.

good point, but this will still help out those looking to lose every pound they're comfortable losing. I'd like to get my car weighed out of curiosity. My main weight savings now are just turbo back exhaust, light weight battery, rear seat delete, and lighter wheels, rotors, and suspension.

seats hoods and trunks are gonna gain you the most... most else is just marginal unless done in large groups.

The official weight of the car is 1560 kg = 3432 lbs(dry), I weighed my car at Roebling Road scales and I came in at 3320. The changes I had at the time were: 1/4tank of fuel, CF hood, RR Catless DP's, Maddad midpipe and axelback, Injen Intake, HPF FMIC.....so it really makes me wonder what these other cars are weighing in at?

My 2011 135i 6mt with about 1/2 tank of gas weighed 3290 at the drag strip. Bone stock.

I think those like me with step transmissions weigh in around 40lbs heavier, I can't seem to find the exact figure now.

I have the stock front wheels listed at 24.25lbs, rears 26.27. When I was researching tires I was surprised that the runflats were similar in weight to most tires with a few brands of tires being substantially heavier (PS2's if I remember correctly).

Nice Random, I didn't know you had joined me in the no rear seat club. That was about what I guessed the weight was just from lifting it. Did you build anything to block of the trunk? You might have the lightest street 135 assuming you have a manual transmission.

I'd bet a full RR exhaust would be lightest exhaust, probably dropping around 40-50lbs. I sold my stock dps, hopefully someone can weigh an entire stock exhaust for us.

Good thread man! I will weigh the stock DP's and axelback when I get a chance. I can also do front and rear springs/shocks.

Thats some good weight savings.

what stock wheels do you have? I presume different OEM wheels have different weights. And no, didn't block off the trunk with anything. I'm not sure if mine is the lightest "street" setup but it is a 6MT and that RR TBE was crazy light compared to the monster OEM exhaust components.

According to Edmunds the curb weight is 3252lbs...so it isn't as much as we would think....the other weight I quoted was from some really old literature pre-release...

Love it! As a weight-weenie Lotus owner, I've been disappointed to find so little data on weights of cars, options, stock parts, mods, etc. Thanks for the thread!

If it's helpful, someone did a great job of highlighting where to get the most bang-for-the-buck by quoting dollars per pound saved for the Elise/Exige. Check it out:

I was talking about the 264 wheels that most of us had. They were listed as 11kg fr, 11.92 rear which is what I gave, in lbs. 261's are listed as 11.8fr and 11.23r. 269s are 11.98 and 11.93.

I doubt aftermarket coils, etc are much lighter but I'm not sure. I've seen performance rotors that saved a few lbs per corner.
