1m or m2

Managed to locate 2 cars within 50km of me:

VO 1M with 600 km, never registered or licensed yet (Still warranty on this car?)

LBB M2 with 90 km new from dealer.

Price is pretty much the same .... which one would you pick given all the 1M owners already drove or brought a M2.

If you were to do it all again with 2 cars in front of you, which one would you pick?

1M. Better value in the long run and more fun overall...plus you don't see them.

Depends on what you want. The M2 is going to be more full of electronics and more "refined," whereas the 1M will be more of an epic and collectible car. I have never driven an M2, but there are threads written by those who have, even one long one by Artemis, who had a 1M and recently traded it for an M2.

Even though the 1M has very few km, I would be sure that it has been maintained and had its fluids appropriately changed, plus would be sure the seals were in good condition. Was the 1M stored inside, or outside exposed to the elements. If the latter, I would avoid it.

Seriously...you are already posting in the 1M board so your bias is showing.

What my fellow 1Mer's are saying is dead on.
I don't know how much stock you put in comparos, but there are a couple recent ones where the reviewers flat-out admit that the 1M is way more fun and raw than its newer competitors. It puts a smile on their face that is genuinely discernible.

And this quote from CarFection: "as a car for the idiot, the M2 is going to take some beating."

The value hasn't gone down. I've lost zero dollars per year driving mine.
I'll retire it soon and downgrade to a Fiesta ST until the M2 CSL drops.
I just got swapped back to my 1M from my S54 Roadster (summer rules in PDX) and I can't believe how much I missed it.

I was just at the dealership doing the oil and brake fluid and people were still asking what it was and saying how awesome it looked.

Are you kidding me?

1M of course if you like driving because it is more raw.

1. Harder suspension
2. Shorter wheel base so turn in is quicker, losing the end is a lot quicker too
3. Electronic nannies are less sophisticated so you have to be more steady with your input and have sharper reaction
4. No electronic steering so you get much more steering feel
5. No fake engine sound in the cabin

The last thing is 1M is much more limited and the N54 tuning potential is higher without resorting to changing turbos.

If you are younger then m2 all the way. It is the fresher exterior design with more power and more gadgets.

If you are a little older and "don't care about all that" and just want a car that is FUN then the 1m all the way. It also has the classic bmw raw design that a lot of us love and money can't buy anynore.

No question? I think we can all agree there is at least a question! M2 is marginally faster. 1M is more raw, much more rare, will be better value in long run and looks better (subjective but hard not to love the aggressive appearance of 1m). Similar but different at same time!

m2 is the next generation of 1m.
it's not really different car in hardware, but it has a lot of parts upgraded.
and, you can choose with dct one .

buy older (technically) car? i don't understand, really.

you need to read this

Ha, the fact that you said you can choose dct means the m2 is for you! Nothing compares to rowing gears. Dct, pass.

i've swapped dct on e82, with correct engine of course .
so, factory equipment configuration not a problem for me.

i'm comparing "from under the car", it's little bit different, than comparing gear knob leather seams quality or exhaust sound notes

e82 rear subframe

f87

it's simply next level.

i can modify the car like i want, but i can objectively recognize, that on m2 you can start from different stage.

For me what was most impressive about the M2 was it's chassis/suspension. No understeer nor oversteer. Even when powering out of the turns... the rear axle felt very stable. Not like in the 1M. The entire package is what sold me. Its fun yet a very solid platform. And the rear doesn't get upset with bumps mid corner like in the 1er series.

M2 is two steps up the ladder. If I had to choose now, I'd settle for one instead of my 1M.
Manual and no options just to keep more or less in the same price tag.
