Carbon Fiber Mirror Question

Are the OEM covers worth the extra cash?

OEM:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-19...128i-135i.aspx

$680

Replica Caps:

http://www.**********s.com/Carbon-Fi...8-1-Series.htm

$140

Also would the replicas work well with the BMW performance carbon spoiler or would it look off I assume it would look pretty much the same but if anybody has any input on the replicas I would love to hear it.

I went with the replica caps. I believe JBSpeed sells some in the commercial sections that are great quality (not sure about fitment...)

Here are iCarbon ones from way back when they used to be in business?? I used a special type of glue that went over my covers and glued to the inside of the CF covers to get a nice snug fit without the hassle of tape that leaves you with issues of the white showing up... not sure if my actual AW covers are shot but whatever...

They have special super thin automotive tape now that you might want to try out! Not sure if my method is reversible but pictures are 100x words. The fitment is EXACT and needs to have perfect placement to get it like mine. A little fooling around before applying the tape/glue.

For those that bought the replicas...where'd you buy them from? Are they all the same brand/manufacturer but just from different resellers? It seemed that way with the trunk lid spoiler as well.

Yes, I believe the cost is worth it since they are exposed to the sunlight on a regular basis. I did not want to take a chance with the Chinese versions, albeit some look pretty good. Luv this mod and the BMW performance diffuser

Bought my BMW caps used from a forum member. Quality and fit is excellent as expected. I have the BMW CF spoiler too and the weave is the same. Not that you would even notice from 20 ft. I wasn't willing to go with one of the CF press on caps that sit on your existing mirror. Didn't think it would look good. Go with the OEM.

Can you link us to evidence that the OEM's don't yellow, and to evidence that the replicas do yellow? Thanks!

I'll get back to you in three years I just assumed BMW would be using a better clear coat versus the Chinese versions. Just better overall quality

You could buy a new set of reps for 5 years straight and sell your slightly used reps in the process. For this purely cosmetic mod it is not worth stealership prices

I have caps from J Levi SW. They are awesome. Had them on for 2 years and they have not yellowed ONE BIT, even though my old Seibon hood yellowed in less than 6 months. They were around 200 bucks. When installed correctly, you'd be hard pressed to tell that they're caps versus complete replacements.

However, be careful installing.. I was off by just a tiny bit and now I can't use the mirror retract button or else the cap catches on the mechanism. Not a lot. If I shaved off even a mm of the cap, it would be fine. But my 08 mirrors are so tiny I never use that anyway.

I have the replicas that tape on. They have not yellowed at all. Fitment is pretty good, especially for how cheap they are.

If you see an actual set of BMW CF mirror caps you will notice how much better they fit. They are direct replacements for your stock ones and fit perfectly. We used to see them pop up in the market place for around $300-350 but I havent seen any in months. I could sort of justify the used price but the cost of them new is just too much.
