▀▄ eas | A small update on GIAC Stage 2 software
Just released from GIAC:
"Hi All, We have had very strong interest in Stage 2 software for upgraded IC, downpipes and exhaust (intake optional). We have a spent great deal of time in the testing phase with stage 2 for the N54. Nearly 50% of our dyno in the last 2 months has been with an N54 powered vehicle. With that said, we thought it might be a good time to update you all with where we are with the process. Up to this point, we have done our testing on 93 octane and 91+methanol injection. We knew that more boost could be made with a flash, than currently available, and were determined to make it. Our latest revision of beta software is running approximately 16.8 psi, with some earlier revisions running in the ~15.5psi range. The higher boost levels are working very well on the higher octane pump fuel (98RON and up) with a proper high flow exhaust system, and we will now continue testing to see what works well on 91 octane (95RON). We currently have one of our beta test cars, Evolution Racewerks’ Time Attack 135i, running in various competitive events. During a bit of down time, we thought it would be fun to shuttle it over to the MD Automotive dyno for some dyno runs. Here is what we came out with: Of course, a gratuitous shot of the E.R. 135i on our mustang. Specifics on the car: -Evolution Racewerks competition intercooler kit -Evolution Racewerks downpipes -Evolution Racewerks exhaust system with aftermarket cats -Injen Intake System -Blow off valve -Snow Performance methanol injection Kit -GIAC Beta Stage 2 flash -OEM N54 engine -OEM Turbos Thank you all for your patience, we hope you feel it is paying off!" Congrats to the guys at ER. Gentlemen - Stage 2 is coming soon.

Well now! That looks pretty damn tasty to me.
What's this flash going to cost? Will it eliminate the need for O2 sims on catless DPs by any chance? |

I agree - can't wait to get the flash on our project, we'll be dropping the car off at GIAC shortly.

Interesting enough, we're finding a lot of DMEs that are being sent to us have old software, telling us that software updates are not being performed on a regular basis - or only on a "when needed" basis.

Fantastic numbers guys!
The power comes on early and stays on. I am really wondering just how well these cars will do once the turbo upgrades get into gear. Holding on that kind TQ in the upper revs is very impressive for a relatively small set of turbos.

Update
Here's our 135i running straight 91/methanol. The major difference between this car and the ER 135i, is that we're still running the OEM catback exhaust, whereas ERs car had a 3" system with a race cat.
Here is a list of modifications to the vehicle: 2008 BMW 135i 06/08 build GIAC Stg. 2 beta calibration Macht Schnell 3” Catless Downpipes Macht Schnell Dual Cone intake kit Macht Schnell Intake Scoops Snow Performance S2 Boost Cooler Evolution Racewerks Competition Intercooler Forge Motorsport Adjustable Diverter Valves for N54 Turbo It seems the stock catback is now a bottleneck and we will be building a 3.5" exhaust system for the car to see if we can extract a bit more power in the near future. More testing after the holiday weekend.

Very cool... I have looked at your vw flashes as well, and was wondering if you could do a CAN map switcher like you do on other cars or if the ecu on this car would not allow it. Is it possible or something that might happen in the future?
Here is the pic of the map changer for others reference: |

I'm more interested in the smoothness and driveability of the tune over just raw numbers. Fred at ER told me the GIAC tune is Much smoother than JB3 (he had one on his car until the GIAC tune)... and I'm really interested in this tune but the map changer will be the one that seals the deal. I'm in SoCal, and I know I can get my car flashed back to stock w/o having to remove the DME, but still, I'd like to be able to flash it on the fly just in case I've to go to the dealership, unexpectedly (*cough* HPFP *cough*)
Any word on whether GIAC is working on the map changer for N54s? Keep us posted! Thanks |

I hope this helps....
I emailed GIAC in late October about their tune, the Flashloader, and how it works.
I wrote: Can you clarify that the Flashloader is available for my car (a 2009 135i). And assuming it is available, can you clerify how the flashloader works. Does the standard tune get loaded into the flashloader, so it can be reloaded as required? Or does the GIAC revised tune also get loaded into the ecu so there are 2 tunes resident in the ecu at the same time, and the Flashloader is used to activate the chosen tune - But both are still held in the ecu. If it s the latter approach, is there a way, or are you developing an approach whereby both the original factory software for my car and the GIAC revised tune are both held in the Flashloader, and either can be loaded into the ecu as required. Many thanks They replied: Hello xxxxx, The flashloader is not available at this moment in time. It will be available in the near future, though. The flashloader will switch to a program that drives like stock. It does not reflash the car back to stock. We have no plans at this time to create a system like this. I can send you an update if you like when the flashloader becomes available. -- Best Regards, Austin Wyly Associate Sales and Marketing If they were to produce a product that allowed the cars stock software to be reloaded, given the quality of their tune, I really think they'd win a large portion of the market. Just my thoughts. |

^^^ +1... Being able to go back to stock parameters would be excellent... Being able to flash at home by simply plugging into the ODB port would be the greatest thing yet built for us..

Can someone confirm for me the cost of the Stage 1 GIAC tune for a 135, please? I recall it was $us800 - is that correct, or has it changed? Also, is it the same everywhere, or are their dealers able to set their own price?
Cheers. |

Thanks! Congrats to you guys at EAS too!
Stage 2 is awesome. I'm scared to drive the car now and that's not a joke. It's a beast that I can't tame BTW, big props to EAS for coming through for us at the last minute with some wheel spacers for our last event. Helped salvage what's left of a really bad week of competition for us. |
