F30 Mirrors on E82?
Anyone know if the newer style F30/F22 mirrors can be retrofitted on E82?
I wonder how different the pins would be compared to the LIN Bus LCIs. The plastic looks a bit shorter but I'd love to know if this could maybe work. |

You can change the pin-out and they will work properly, but unless you custom fabricate an adapter to physically fit, the mounting bolts are different and won't fit right out of the box.

might be able to find another mirror from a different make that will fit the mount. Practically every car on the road this year has that same mirror, or one that looks virtually identical.

I ended up just swapping the power fold/auto dim internals from a set I bought off another forum member. Got them coded and they work perfectly, sans door switch with extra button.
Thanks y'all |

Wait...are they E82 mirrors or F30 ones?

I got a set of e82 power fold/dim/heat mirrors in space gray.
I took off the caps and black front brackets and used my non power fold brackets and caps (BSM) and sandwiched it all together on the power fold aluminum motors. I ditched the auto dim glass for eBay blue glass and mounted everything. Coded them to fold with comfort access and key fob sans door switch with extra button. I'll draw a diagram of how the cap tabs work as they are a huge pain in the tuchas (look it up) haha! |

Sounds like the glass may have a leak. There's a fluid sealed between two layers of glass for auto dimming mirrors. The car sends a voltage to this fluid and the glass dims accordingly. If the fluid leaks, it usually makes the glass brown.
I made a DIY on the subject and there's a few good YouTube vids on the process. Just be sure to pry the glass off in the correct spot (behind the glass on the plastic backing). It's very easy to break the glass if prying in the wrong spot. A good plastic trim tool is key. I'm not sure how to link my DIY via mobile app but it's in the "DIY" section under "DIY Mirror Cap/Glass swapping" |
