BMW Performance Seats: Will airbag light stay on?

I have just taken delivery of an Alpine White 1M. Its great, but I am finding the standard seats are mounted too high. I am thinking about upgrading to the BMW Performance seats (basically a reskinned Recaro Sportster CS, I think) so that I can be sitting lower and have better sideways support for the track.

My BMW dealer (Adelaide Motors) says they put similar seats in a 135i coupe and couldn't get the airbag warning light to go out. I don't want to pay Aus $8,000 for seats and have an airbag light permanently on.

Has anyone else put these (or the Recaro CS Sportster with airbags) in their 1M coupe or 135i? If so, did they get the airbag warning light to extinguish?

Cheers

Here's a link from the M3 forum. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344544 I hope this helps. I would like to put in the performance seats too. Looks like you suffer from the same problem as we do in the US of A! For once we're not alone lol.

You will need coding for the airbag light.

Like David said above. All it will take is a simple coding session to fix the problem if it does occur. Depending where you live it should be easy to find someone to do it.

Is this a problem with the driver's seat as well or just the passenger seat with the different sensor?

on my e46 m3 it just took a specific resistor installed into the seat wiring harness. i never would have figured it out myself, but with good instructions it cost a couple bucks and only a few minutes of my time. any electrical savants on here who know how to determine style and placement of resistor?

Thanks to your manual, I have installed the BMW Performance Seats (BPS) on the driver side and the passenger side today.
The airbag error was displayed after installing the seats and adding +RECA to the VO/FA.

After adding +RECA to the VO, I was getting two errors as follows.
MRS Error code 93C1, Kind of error E1
DSC Error code D35A, Kind of error 24

I have heard that there is no occupancy sensor in the passenger seat except for the US market so I did not check the SBR_SENSOR_BEIFAHRER_MCD in the ABG module but apparently it turned to aktive after changing the VO.
After changing SBR_SENSOR_BEIFAHRER_MCD to nicht_aktiv, I have no error. Other items like OC3_1 and SBR_ related were nicht_aktive after added the +RECA to the VO.

My car is 2011 E82 1M ECE model no iDrive.
With the dealer system ISTA/P, there is a check box of BPS to do the setting automatically and permanently. It might be an easy way to do your job.

One confusing part was the height of the seat.
To lower the position, you use the upper hole.

Another one is the rear bolts are so close to the seat when using the lower position to use a tool. The seat will come just 2 to 3 cm (about an inch) above the rear seat rail bolts so that it is quite difficult to measure the proper tightening torque of 44 Nm with a torque wrench that I have.

Not trying to hijack your thread but just trying to get the word out so that others that have not gotten their IM yet, can avoid some of these issues. There are gripes coming out about the seats being too high but this is problem is mainly on the power seats. A lot of people are ordering these cars fully loaded with power seats. The manual seats are lighter and sit 1 1/2" lower.

So if you are tall, plan to wear a helmet consider the manual seats!

You get lighter seats, lower seating and save money and if you put people in the back day in and day out, the move faster out of the way than motorized seats.
