Hood release latch

Hey guys
My hood release cable seems to have come off the plastic handle/trigger.

Any insight into removing that panel next to dead pedal?
Or worse case how to undo latch near kidney grille.

Thx

I'm just happy we have managed to foster a growing community here of people who appreciate the 128i and what BMW used to be.

You need to remove the screw that holds the holds the hood release, take the release off, pry up the trim that is clipped in place along the door runner just a little bit, and then I think there might be one more screw above the OBDII port.

It's pretty easy, I had all those panels off the other day when I was doing my v1 wheel install. $8 panel if you screw up, so no real worries there.

Thanks for the insight, haven't found any threads with your info

I also found 1addicts threads on access via driver side Kidney grille: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733998

No problem. Sorry if it was a little vague, all off the top of my head from a few months ago.

Turned out to be an issue with the platic box in near the headlight as per the thead I referenced. That whole box needs to be metallic, otherwise the cable breaks through the plastic & changes the release point of the hood

The OEM Halogens are disgusting, and really take away from the overall exterior appearance. When I got the car, the guy included those headlights I had shown before, but wanted to get something a bit "nicer", but like you said, the market seems to be pretty limited. I've been debating putting the set I was given in for the time being..., but I've also heard of people sending assemblies to OSS and having them revamp the design (but I'm sure theres a generous cost that goes along with that as well).

x2. Coming from my Rsx, I was a bit concerned with BMW maintenance, but after reading everyones love for the 128 here, I went and got mine within a day of deciding I wanted one. Theres a lot of great information here, and a lot of members that have quality input (compared to some other forums I am active on). I appreciate everyones help so far!

If I was in your position, I would either get something custom built in the existing housings by a company like Lightwerkz(although they have really slipped in recent years), or just bite the bullet and get Euro xenons(as there is no point in spending the same cash on orange reflector units). I have always been disappointed in aftermarket headlights. It seems to be an area no one can do well.

I kind of figured that's what I would have to end up doing. I just got back from a lengthy and expensive vacation with my girlfriend and have been despising the thought of forking over the amount of cash it would require to have the headlights done right. I was considering putting the lights on that I have, and taking the OEM's and attempting a retro fit myself. My only worry is doing something wrong and completely ruining them.

I do have one other question; It seems when I have the A/C on (sometimes it does this with it off as well), and I am sitting at a red light I will feel the RPM spike about 100 and the car will jerk. I assume this is some kind of misfire, but I don't understand why it only happens at a light. When I turn the car on, sometimes I will hear a little "pop" come from the exhaust if this is a clue to anything specific.

I'd wait till you feel financially confident enough to do it right. Sell the aftermarket headlights for cash to fund it.

From what I've seen, that is pretty normal for the 128i with the AC on a hot day. I'm thinking about having Evolve bump my idle 100 rpm to see if it fixes it.

Sorry but I did not write this as a negative comment. It was a positive comment about the video and your diving ability. I enjoyed the video and thought how I would NOT be able to maneuver those curves with traffic gaining on me and still concentrating on the driving.

Sorry about the confusion.

I see that I was really mistaken by the video. I see now that it was by kobeballer96. I am 71 and sometimes the power of this little rocket overwhelms me. I can feel the rear tires slipping and sliding at times. But I sure do enjoy the ride.

Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed the ride. At my age, 71, I know that I would not be able to hold the track around those curves while cars were gaining and passing. Great job.

My bad. Just used to negative comments by 135 owners. Guess I'm just feeling defensive this morning. I deleted that last post after reflecting hoping you hadn't seen it yet.

Again. Sorry.
