It just means they have go outside to smoke. And those same idiots are even banning smoking outside in some areas.

Yeah, I smoke, and I'm and American, and I eat red meat, like to drink once in a while, watch the occassional porno, look at pretty girls, drive above the speed limit, let people into my lane when they signal, and generally enjoy my right to pursue happiness, and defend every other Americans right to pursue their happiness too.
YOU SUCK and YOU know who YOU are! ARGH!

Ok, I'm done.
Those things that you had listed along with smoking do not have any adverse health effects on the general public, unlike secondhand smoke. You are right, you have the right to smoke, but if you decide to light up in a restaurant or a lobby, we all have to smoke with you which is not fair.

You can eat red meat or drink a beer without it affecting another person one iota and nobody is telling you not to, but that's not the case with smoking. If you watched a porno in a place where you were forcing everyone else to watch it as well, you'd be in just a bit of hot water as well.

I'm not self-righteous, nor will I tell you that you should stop smoking, but I will ask that you respect that others do not enjoy your smoke and should therefor not be subjected to it against their will. If drinking a beer also made those around you a little bit tipsy as well, the same rules would apply, but that doesn't happen.

That sucks.....it makes the car look cheap.
However, every auto manufacture does this crap.
The 1996 A4 came with under the hood light, in 98 it was eliminated...along with a few other stuff.
However, the big kick was MY 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 99-02 models came loaded......the 03,04 they eliminated boat loads of goodies. They even went light on the sound detening material stuff....removed the red lights at the bottom of the doors, removed the engine hood light, removed fabric/leather from the door inserts....etc.
You get the idea.....
Heck between 08, and 09 135!......they did eliminate the F-ing hood blanket, the trunk "real" push button,....im pretty sure theirs more.
Im pissed that Auto mags dont call this out, to us readers..........

I have a 3/09 build date 135i vert and there is a push button on the trunk lid just above the license plate which opens the trunk if the car is unlocked.

I can understand and I'm sure some will at least welcome the choice of no sunroof and they work in a bit more value into the premium pkg. While I'd welcome shaving the weight off the top of the car I don't think I would've passed on it given the choice and I didn't even consider premium so it would've cost me 650 more for a '10. The lid on the freaking console tray? That just seems like the most budge move maybe ever- how bout scraping the driver's side holy shit handle first? Wasn't charging more for the sunroof a la carte or enticing more to go for the lucrative (I've got to believe) prem pkg. enough? Really BMW? Really?

NEVER leave loose change in the car. Even if it is not visible from the outside. the fact that the crackheads might get their cocaine infested fingers on some loose chage will encourage them to continue in this manner. Just imagine if every car in the world never ever had anything to steal? Always take your change with you.

As far as travelling to Vancouver - be warned - if it looks like there is somerthing in the car worth stealing - they will likely break the window, even in broad daylight. Rumour has it, some of the parking lot attendants are in on the scam. Cars from out of province, especially Washington State are regularly broken into, by the dozens each month. And laptops, purses, gifts, even musical instruments regularly go missing from locked vehicles all over the Vancouver area.
Where at what is this? LOL

Just inside the glove box, on the left side, is a slider switch. This switch enables/disables the trunk release (i.e. you can't open the trunk if you disable this switch). The idea is that you disable this switch, lock the glovebox, and then lock the car. This way, even if someone breaks into the cabin of the car, they can't pop the trunk open. Also good if you need to valet the car or drop it off for service and have stuff in the trunk you want to keep locked up.

If they covered the tray with the same sort of door that is over the ashtray, I would be OK with it (as long as there is a second auxiliary port up-front as there apparently is). An open tray seems cheap to me. I do not smoke but I use the accessory port for my 12V air compressor and I put little BMW odds and ends into the ash tray (valve stem caps, plug from arm rest auxiliary socket (that one has my flashlight in it), etc..

I think smokers have a right to feel persecuted right now but I suspect it will get worse. What if we applied the statistics for health care to the health insurance premiums? Seems much more likely than charging other more favored groups. I think smoking is a bad idea but I don't think it effects me much if others choose to smoke. And I think more people need to loose weight and exercise more. Many people gain weight when they stop smoking. I wonder which is worse for your health. Last time I checked, the only person I am responsible to make these decisions for is me. So while I have opinions about what others should be doing, my overall view is that either we need to remind all the people doing unhealthy things that what they are doing is bad regularly or we need to leave all of them alone. Singling out smokers and leaving the rest alone does not make much sense. Don't hold your breath waiting for somebody to remind homosexuals that their lifestyle is not so healthy.

Jim
Let's just clear up some misconceptions so people don't get the wrong idea. I'm going to cite sources just to make sure.

1) Smoking is the leading cause of preventable mortality in the United States. This is in spite of the fact that there are more obese people than smokers living in this country

http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/291/10/1238
http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssH...35828620081113

I hope that answers your question. Don't kid yourself into thinking that you're not paying for this at one level or another (taxes, insurance premiums).

2) The average weight gain when someone stops smoking is five to ten pounds. Hardly significant, and not a meaningful contribution to the obesity epidemic. When a patient with morbid obesity tells me that the only thing keeping them from dropping their 2-pack-a-day habit is risk of weight gain, I have to struggle to keep a straight face. Fortunately that comes with practice.

3) I can see why blame-it-on-the-gays may be politically convenient for you. However, you leapfrogged a whole bunch of preventable mortality causes to get to HIV, which is way down the list (See JAMA article, also: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/FASTATS/aids-hiv.htm ) HIV kills 12K per year in the USA, versus 440K for smoking, 400K for obesity, etc. Also, lets just establish that promiscuous homosexual behavior, rather than monogamous homosexual behavior, is what carries the most significant risk for exposure. Additionally, since lesbians are at the lowest risk for contracting HIV, should lesbianism therefore be promoted?

Smoking should absolutely be singled out. It kills our loved ones and is a drag on our economy to boot. You are absolutely right that it isn't the only issue that needs to be addressed, but pound for pound, discouraging smoking is where the money is. Please pardon me if I sound indignant.

I don't know how these discussions seems to degenerate the way they do, the only thing I care about is the aesthetic and convenience issues with deleting this package. I think the open bin looks cheap as hell, and not having access to the 2nd power port while driving would be a PITA for me (I use the armrest one for my XM tuner and sometimes need the 2nd one for my cellphone charger).

If BMW wants to save the 10 bucks per car and to control costs by decontenting I have no problem with that at all. Carrying prices over from '09 to '10 is something I've never seen with any manufacturer, so cutting a few little things is fine by me.

What I don't understand is why they don't give you the option to add the smoker's pack back into the car. If I was ordering a '10 model I'd pay $50, hell even $100 to add it back in. They do it in the rest of the world, why not make this optional for the U.S. market?

I have no dog in the fight since I have an '08, but I really question the wisdom of how BMW chose to do this.

Hey, you don't have to apologize to me- smoking is going to help me put my kids through college. The truth ain't pretty, but that's life.

I like the lid too.
