Would there be any damage if you used a really fine grade mesh to cover the vent, instead of the cone intake? I have direct access to this stuff, so let me know if you want to try it out, Edwin.
edit: oh also, K&N make a cover for their intakes that doesn't let in ANY water!! :O check it out here - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...B07F5KBBDM444G |

Just looked at my engine bay - I don't think mine can fit, there is barely any space for any sort of tube to go down the bumper vent. I think my ER Chargepipe and connecting pipes to the FMIC is bigger then stock...
Might have to do it this way. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=helix |

I've seen those filter wraps. I'll let you know and thanks for the offer woosh. Quote:
As for the Helix I really think it's no different to a DCI setup. Still f#$%ing hot under that bonnet and that filter will be sucking more air which is good but it's just not what the turbo's prefer (cold/dense air). |

Will be interesting. Yeah with the Helix my thinking is that since it is also getting the cold air from the stock inlet it may reduce the temperature coming from the other intake and may prove better then a conventional DCI? |

Here's a few pics I had on my phone. Had to cut the brace on the first image. I'll just put a rubber stopper over it so it looks neet. Last image is under the power steering bracket once the metal has been removed and yes I did paint it black after.

Here's yet more dodgy iphone pics of the install.
The front Turbosmart bov sits too high and pushes on the ducting. As a result when I took it for a drive the CP blew off cause of the pressure being put on the front bov/CP. I used some old radiator hose to wedge under the CP to hold it in place. So far so good. I also have a 20cm 3" alu pipe connecting the ducting to the filter. You can't see it cause it's inserted all the way into the ducting. Last edited by JB4-335; 01-22-2012 at 05:37 PM.. |

So I managed to pull out my real camera and get a few snaps of the system installed. It sounds just like the stock airbox but at least I know my turbos are thanking me for a nice volume of cold air. I know the filter is very visible and I can move it up a little in the bumper but I may just switch it for a dark grey one or a black filter. I'll also be filling that hole in the wheel well so no brake dust get's in although it's probably good for air circulation.

Thanks Richard. Just as soon as you guys post me my business class tickets and accomodation for 5 nights at the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. Aaaahh and I'm gonna need one of your cars as a loan car while I'm there, preferably one that has meth.

Thanks. Hard to find one in Australia. You'll have more luck in the US but it is quite large so postage will likely be the killer. |

I just took the car for a nice hard drive with a meth additive of 30 (approx 15psi) and she brakes traction in the second like never before. I almost completely lost it a couple of times. Even did it in third once.
I don't know if it's the intake but I'm guessing the car is loving the extra cool air. I've also got some MS109 in the tank so could be a combo of both. |

That looks sweet Edwin. I'm sure the lack of traction is result of the extra octane though
Very nice, can't wait to do this myself. I think I'm going to end up hacking up my stock box sooner or later. I think it looks pretty cool sitting in your air duct too. My only concern is water splashing up into the cone causing possible hydrolock. |

Yeh possibly more to do with octane. I read somewhere that if you dip your pod filter in water and let it drain for 60 seconds the remaining water will not be sucked in. Worst case senario is to slap one of these babies on. |

I don't imagine it would be very easy to slip on one of those covers if it involves removing the inner wheel guard. If you can put it on through the air brake duct that would be okay. Otherwise I'd suggest a piece of black plastic to act as a weather shield, just keep it in the boot and throw it on when it rains.
I really like your install Edwin, it's really clean. After seeing this, I can't see how anyone could justify spending $1200 on a DINAN CAI which is basically the same thing with a CF bling cover |
