1 year Maintenance
Well it has been 1 year of great fun driving with my 128i coupe and about 13,500km. But my service indicator says 13,000km more until my first service. I have brought this by my dealer here in London and they scan my key and say that it is not due until dec 2010, or 18 months after purchase. I do alot of city driving, lower highway. I spoke to several service dept in toronto area on phone and they are telling me I can get a yearly service or 25,000km whatever comes first. I think if you want to maintain your car long term, oil should be changed yearly, I mean this is still the factory stuff in the engine! Also reading Bimmer Magazine there are frequent columns by a guy there that says more frequent maintenance should be done on BMW's than what BMW will actually do themselves. What are people's experiences opinions on this?

You are entitled to 1 per year or every 24,000kms - whichever comes first!! For the first 48 months or 80,000kms! As yours is 'normally aspirated' you shouldn't find you need to explore outside of these guidelines. Yours should burn very little oil between changes

If you're keeping your car long term you should have changed the oil at 5000 km. I'd definitely insist to your dealer that you take it at the one year mark. They should have no reason NOT to want to do it, they do the work and bill BMW because it's covered under warranty. If they persist, tell them it's your car and you want to take care of it, and then go to another BMW for service.
