Are you driving a 2006 E90? Please read
I have had my 2006 330i Sparkling Graphite Metallic, black
leather with Sport and Premium packages for 3 weeks now and I love the car. However it has a few minor problems that worry me and I want to learn if any of you has the same problem(s). The seat position memory does not work from the remote, only pushing the memory buttons on the side of the seat. The dealer said that they heard some more complaints and that “the software is not ready” and will be available in September. Other non-working items: Doors do not lock automatically soon after car starts moving. Passenger vanity mirror light not working Passenger side airbag indicator light comes on and off (independently of anybody seating there). Button to copy garage door opener cannot be set. Please let me know if these features work on your car. If not, what was the reason given to you? Worst of all: as I pick up my car (after nearly 3 days) without any of these problems solved, I realize that the key lock does not hold the key anymore. The key falls of the lock even when the car is running! My guess is that someone who handled the car did not know what they were doing and pulled hard to remove it. Now I have to wait 3-5 days for the “part” to arrive. Meanwhile I am driving holding the key in place with 2 $1 bills so it won’t fall. When I got my previous 330i from a different dealership, I was told that they would program the keys with my desired options, which they did. No such thing happened this time. I appreciate your comments and experience with this car as I am trying to figure out what is going on with mine. Thanks in advance, Paul |

Hey Paul. Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you seem to be having some trouble. I can't really tell you about the seat memory, because though I have power seats (and possibly the memory), I never use it; I didn't get the prem. package. However, there is some truth about the software updates in September. A lot of members have been told about this, so it seems like a lot of the first year bugs will be sorted out by this update.
About your door locking problem...do you have the iDrive? If you do, just click the iMenu, then go to Vehicle Settings>Central Locking>Lock doors after 5 m.p.h. This should solve the problem. If you don't have iDrive, maybe there is a way to change it some other way, and if not, I'm sure the dealer can set it for you. Definitely check about the vanity mirror. When you slide over the cover panel, you can hear a switch click, and the light SHOULD go on. There's definitely a problem you need to address to the dealer. I don't get an airbag message, but the button next to the sunroof always lights up saying "Passenger airbag disabled". I'm not sure what this means...anyone else know? Like I said, I don't have the Prem. Package, so I don't have the garage door button feature, so maybe someone else can help you with these other questions. Good luck! |

Paul, welcome to the forum! Seems like you have some legit problems and a few common confusion issues. Bottom line is it sounds like your dealer is not very thorough in explaining things. I also had problems with the garage door opener and ended up having a Homelink tech help me out. He had me hold my existing remote behind the mirror (on the windshield side) to get it to transfer - which it did.
The good news is that you can take a jaunt down Topanga Canyon road to Malibu and then cruise up the PCH anytime you want - you lucky dog! I was in Agoura Hills last fall on business and loved that drive in a cheap rental. It would be great in the E90. Hope you get everythingn worked out! |

In case you don't know, the vanity mirror lights only come on if you slide open the mirror cover. Good luck on your car though. Looks like it needs some loving from the dealer.. especially the key fob issue..

I just had both DRL AND auto locking enabled by my dealer on Friday. No iDrive on my ride. According to the worksheet my service advisor gave me, there are several options on how the seat memory works. No memory, press the button, key. Each is set for individual keys. Also has option to remember climate and radio settings.
There has been a lot of problems with the airbag sensor, from what my service advisor told me. We had problems where the light was on indicating the airbag was off while my wife was sitting there (yes, she is more than the 65 lbs or whatever the minimum is) I have had a 1.5 liter bottle of water sitting on the seat with no seatbelt, and the disabled indicator comes on. We will be getting a new passenger seat sometime this week, but not because of the airbag sensor. |

Second, since you drive a BMW, shouldn't you use $100 bills to hold the key into the hole? |

Thanks to Sharp 1183, rudyboy, desibimmer, LEDZEP, Spaceman, UncleWede and
dnh325i for your replies. I do not have iDrive, but from your postings now I know that some of my “problems” may be solved with the upcoming September upgrade. Problems like the passenger airbag indicator are still not clear. The problem with the broken key is something else, and hopefully it will be fixed without further complications. I love the car and I trust BMW (but I do not trust the dealers). Hopefully I will only take it in for oil changes in the future. LEDZEP, this is for you. Yesterday I drove down Malibu Canyon for a walk in Zuma Beach. My E90 loved every turn of the road (probably not the experience you had with the cheap rental Here is a picture I took yesterday at Pacific Coast Highway. Thanks again to all. Let me know if there are any news. Regards, Paul |

Great looking car! It looks just like mine!
I have had a few issues with electronics (fog lights sometimes don't work), and the car is currently in the shop right now. I have confidence that BMW will get the problems sorted out, but for now we will just have to live with the problems until they have time to figure it out. |

I can't find my manual right this second, but the trick for me on the garage door opener was the last step - If I recall right, the BMW manual says press and release 3 times. However, you have to hold the button in for 2 seconds each time you do it - that I found from the Homelink website.
