Looking for some advice!
I recently took my bimmer to the dealership, to get a couple of things fixed. One thing i pointed out was my dash board had a indention. Yes, I have done my research but they said they wouldn't do anything about it. I was wondering if their was something i could tell my SA, so they would change it. I think he is taking advantage of me because I am young. Any advice? Anything i could tell them so they would change it?
Thanks in advance! |

Since it's a 2010 I'm guessing it's still warrented? If it was not "user's fault" I would insist on them replacing it. We get bumper to bumper in BMW's for this reason.

Yes, this is the famous passenger air bag indention. I told my SA and he said he would look into it (I don't think he will). He said their was nothing they could do about it because if they replaced it, the same thing would happen again. I don't have any pictures because my car is already at the dealer. Any chance he's just talking advantage of me because I'm young? I just don't agree their should be a dent on my dash board when its a 40k car.

From BMW SIB 510710,
Depression on Top of the Instrument Panel MODEL E82, E88 (1 Series) INFORMATION A slight depression or outline may be visible on the top, passenger side of the instrument panel. This outline is created by the perforated edge of the lid covering the passenger front airbag. This outline is a normal condition and is visible on most vehicles. Due to normal variation, the outline may be more noticeable on some cars than others. Do not replace any parts for this situation, as this is a normal condition and it will not provide an improvement.

wow, no mention of affected date range in the SIB?
Bimmer135i, are you in a hot climate? The cars I saw at a dealership in FL all seemed to have this indentation. |

I have a late 2009 build and I too have the wonderful indentation. All build years are riddled with it.

I think someone with a bit of cinematic skill should draft a script and cast a someone in the roll of Bangle or van Hooydonk and video a short BMW YouTube infomercial about how BMW believe so deeply in the Joy Of Safety that they want all their 1 series customers to be reminded daily that they have life saving airbags in the dash. So they specially crafted a dashboard that has this fabulous visible indent giving just a hint of the safety technology contained below the surface.
Then post it.

I live in Houston, Texas. It gets pretty hot in the summer.
For people that did get their dash replaced. Did they replace it with no questions asked or did you have to put up a fight? |
