count me in, but only if wider fenders become a reality. sounds like the torque-vectoring diff too!

just a rough estimate but that seems a lot more reasonable than $54,000 imo.

Again, the 54000 is just based on what the price would be in USD from the 38,000 euro estimate. It is not an estimate of what the US price would be. Actually until the actual price from BMW is known, our speculation/guess really does not mean much.

I wish you best of luck getting one.

Not funny! The "official" day is on my birthday. But hopefully we'll see it way before then.

"Its driveline is likely to feature a standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an electronically controlled M differential."

Is this going to be like the Z4 35is and only come in DCT? That would just absolutely ruin it for me.

I'll probably stick with my plan of getting an M3 next. I enjoy driving a manual too much.

1500kg is roughly 3300lbs.. which is 300-400 lbs less than 135, add tune from M division, factory IC, LSD and new bushings.. I think it is well worth it. make it $44k MSRP.. This car will sell..at least 1 to me

This M version of the 1 Series will probably not cannibalize on the M3. The M3 is today larger and more "luxurious" than it was in 1987 and now targets a different audience. The M1 will appeal to those seeking a more compact version, harkening back to the original E30 M. I for one would be glad to see it come here to the States, where the current M3 (while a great car) has become symbol of status more than driving pleasure, especially here in the city of San Francisco.

He is taking issue with getting called out about his reading comprehension skills being a bit lacking.

He tried to call out another forum member for saying that the car will be a twin-turbo power plant since he thinks "the article clearly states that it will have the new twin-scroll single-turbo engine developed in the new 5 series GT". He was quickly schooled and ran with his tail tucked spouting issues with people debating about what this new ///M with be in final trim...

Since when does the 135 weigh 3600-3700lbs? Last time I checked it was in the 3400lb range.

Yeah that was me he was calling out.

(otherwise I probably would have just skipped over that last post completely)

The 135 is around 3300 lbs now; it's definitely not 3600-3700 lbs.

I agree with you that the M3 has gone after a different audience, but the original audience was still buying them because there was really no other alternative (while sticking with the BMW brand).

I would expect the M1 to take some M3 sales for sure. I know I would certainly rather have a proper M1 than the current M3, which is too large for my taste. I would also expect it to bring back some customers who jumped ship because the M3 had gone too far from its roots with the last model.

I find it interesting that in almost 5 pages nobody has screamed BLASPHEMY for the possible usage of the "M1" badge. Interesting....

It's actually right around 3400lbs, but the weights will vary a little from place to place depending on their standards (with or without a full tank for example).

I've always said that the M version likely wouldn't drop more than 100lbs because there's just no easy way to remove much more, and that falls right in line with what we're seeing here.

Thoughts of getting it down around 3000lbs are just unrealistic with the existing chassis without drastically increasing the target price.

This will be sweet but only time will tell... I know one thing, I won't jump into one of these as quick as I did the first time b/c next thing you know I will be collecting third brake light and HPFP service receipts like it is my job...

Around mid 2013 if this thing is reliable I am getting one... Modding is awesome but a warrenty is even better on a car this expensive in price/repairs... Come on BMW bump this thing up to 400hp!...

I am with you PM3. I have a CSL too. Car is 6 years old and still they cannot make a proper 1 series ///M.

I bought the csl recently because i thought ///M would come out with a better more agile car better high rev engine a car based on the 1 series etc etc. I quess not the CSL stays a bit longer.

GTS is a good try but it s very expensive to trow around tracks.

A cheaper 1 series ///M is a good base car for me as a trackday warrior but with turbo s on track???? My ex 135i went in limpmode overheating issues etc. I see no point in buying a trackworty car with a turbo. And next to that the csl you can steer so beautiful on throttle because of the linear throttle response. I really miss that in turbo d cars.

well to be fair, the M1 was never a genuine BMW
wasn't assembled/desgined by Lamborghini ?
plus its over 30 years ago

they are so scared that it's gonna be quicker than M3 so they are doing now all they can in order to dumb down the power. sad.

Exactly. I don't understand how people think several hundred pounds can be shed. Modern cars have obviously grown bigger and heavier due to new safety standards along with other factors as well. I would love to see a modern reincarnation of an E30 M3, but it just isn't realistic to build a car of that size and weight with the demands and requirements of today's market.
