2012 135i vert - trunk partition message

I recently bought a 2012 e88. Yesterday I tried lowering the roof and got the "Trunk Partition" error message. The trunk partition was in the correct position so I closed it and opened it. Still got the same message. I did this about 10 times until it finally worked. Any idea what the problem is here? Is it a bad sensor? My car is still under warranty so I'm hoping this is something I can get the dealership to fix.

Sounds like a sensor. Is your car covered by BMW CPO warranty?

It shouldn't be a problem, bring it in for diagnosis.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens again. Only bring it to the dealer if you can replicate the problem. If it doesn't happen for the technicians to see they're just going to say it's working at this time and do nothing.

I've had all kinds of strange electrical things happen in my car but they only occur once or twice ever. For example I've had the same thing with the trunk partition, I've had my front seat move all the way forward overnight, I've had the rearview mirror go dim in broad daylight, but all of these were just flukes so there isn't really anything to do.

To that point, if you can replicate the error, take a picture of the error message and try to take it to the dealer in that condition so they can't say "unable to replicate"

my windows would randomly at times stay closed and wudnt work, then suddenly work again, they were never able to replicate it. they replaced my frm module when they replaced my transmission and it fixed all my electrical issues that would prevent me from opening my windows. i believe the frm controls several other electrical items as well. i even recorded the window issues they didnt really care.

in my experience telling your SA the warnings like this one they may have to do some digging but BMW may have a procedure that matches and offers a fix. I had a warning when attempting to put top up/down of motor over-heating, first time I mentioned it got the "not able to replicate" and 2nd time 9mo later BMW had a resolve as a known issue.
