Side wall damage
I just took a chunk out of the sidewall of my front tyre (Michelin PSS) hitting a gutter on a weird shaped driveway. I can't see or feel anything metal threads. Is it safe to keep driving or best to ditch it and start afresh?

I thought as much. It's annoying as it's still got plenty of meat left on the tread. As exciting as being involved in a fireball of doom sounds, I think I'll play it safe.
What's everyone's thoughts on putting one new tyre on the front with other about two thirds new? Hopefully someone has a half worn front in the For Sale section.

Does anyone know the best courier company and price for sending tyres from Melbourne to Brisbane?

I'm just getting a new tyre rather than messing around with finding a half worn one to match my other front.
It's interesting that the internet is full of differing advice, with some very strong opinions about ditching a tyre with sidewall damage. However, I'm yet to find actual stories of a catastrophic failure due to sidewall damage (plenty talking about slow leaks and bulges).

The two tyre places I've spoken to have both said that unless the threads are exposed the tyre is usually ok to drive on. My chunk is 3mm deep at one point so I'm going to play it safe although I'm being told that the threads are way deeper than that.

And that's exactly the reason why I'm replacing the tyre. I'd hate to bounce off a tree on a spirited drive.

I just had the tyre changed and I'm getting the tyre pressure symbol on the dash (red tyre with ! in it). I've resetted the tyre pressures but the error symbol still comes up. I've taken a quick five minute drive but it's still there. Will it eventually calibrate and go away? Is there something the tyre fitter might have done to cause it?
The other front tyre is about 60-70% remaining. Ok I was just reading about the TPMS sensor and it seems to be in the valve. The tyre guy changed the valve (for what reason I don't know). Could it be that he has removed the TPMS?

Never mind. I discovered I wasn't resetting the tyre pressures correctly. You have to hold the button down and get a tick before it resets.
