Wow epic journey! Love the 1M in black...don't be surprised if those pesky dash rattles happen in the 1er. Hopefully it won't be as bad as your STI. Congrats, sweet ride!

Nice write up! It looks like you had a great trip. And, congratulations on the new 1M

I picked up both of my cars at the Performance Center, because I wanted to drive the car and enjoy it on a road trip.

I also went with a friend, who purchased an M3 out of state. We flew to pick up the car and drove it back. A great time--though not quite the trip you had.

Congrats! Great write-up. I wish I had jumped at the chance for a 1M when the opportunity arose at launch. I would have taped the hell out of the front end too.

Agreed, why the hell would the dealership do this. It looks tacky on a Chevy Cobalt, let alone a 1M. I assume you have removed that already.

I assume paint protection while driving cross country. Helps avoid lots of dings/scratches/scuffs.

Thanks to everyone who congratulated me on the 1M, I couldn't be happier with it! I am glad everyone has enjoyed reading about the cross-country delivery trip.

I am going to try and respond to some of the questions / comments.

Adobeee - "great read and looks like you had a grand time. how much did you spend in total on gas?" - I spent around $400 total in fuel.

New JerZ - "did you take a pic of yourself fake sleeping? Lol. Nice car." - Haha I did not take a selfie of myself sleeping. My Co-pilot Madhav took that picture.

Marc08EX - WOW!!! So back to a 1er huh!? But a much better one! - I am glad to be back!

Upgrade+ - Really good read. But my god, 2500 mi put on the car driving it home? How much would it have been to had it shipped? - I love driving and I think epic road trips are the best way to start ownership in a new car.

Einser M - amazing story and write up, really enjoyed that, its like you don't even need ED! - I still hope to take ED of a M car someday soon!

Dackelone - NICE writeup. A good road trip is always a great idea! Welcome back to 1Addicts - Thank you! I am happy to be back!

swifty - Wondering if there is a particular painters tape that will hold up in the rain and all since I'll be doing a 10hr drive end of this month. -I am unsure if there is a painters tape that will hold up the rain. I hear good things about track wrap but I have never personally tried it. Since my trip was so spur of the moment I didn't have time to order it online or locate some locally.

fermat1313 - Yes, yes yes! I own both cars, and I agree that they both have very similar and amazing steering capabilities. The 1M gets a slight leg up because it's so much more stable in high speed maneuvers because it has almost no body roll. Congratulations on your purchase. It's a really great car. - I am glad we both agree on the similarities between the S2000 & the 1M! Glad you are enjoying both!

ECSTuning - Welcome to the community and congrats on the 1M!!! -James - Thank you for the warm welcome, I will be hitting you up for some little parts soon!

vertebra - Beautiful find! But why CPO it instead of buying the extended warranty? - From my understanding CPO covers more of the car then BMW extended warranty.

JasonCSU - Congrats on the 1M!. I do think your use of painters tape was a little excessive though. - You can never have enough painters tape!

BMWGRAM - Lot of miles why didn't you just have the car shipped? Save the time, flights, gas and food? - It wouldn't be an adventure if you didn't drop everything and fly out to pickup a new car and drive it back!.

Alumac - My guess? He bought the car to, you know, drive it and stuff. It's nice to see an owner that doesn't labor under the delusion that the 1 M Coupe is a collectible car. Granted, that delusion, for most, will persist right up until the M2 comes out. - I am glad we are on the same page! The 1M will get driven plenty!

OverDriven - From the pic here and a few I've seen of him with his Ariel Atom, he looks like he can't be over 18 years old. Lucky guy indeed. Congrats. - Thank you for the congratulations, The Ariel Atom was also another epic ownership experience. I wish I was 18 still! Sadly I am 26 now.

akotten - Maybe until it gets a clear bra? - Nailed it! Clear Bra soon..

ALPINA B5 - whats the tape for? - I used the painters tape to protect the paint from bugs / rock chips.

Papethova - Congrats, next time trak tape. The tape peeling like that and flapping in the wind especially with gravel/sand or debris stuck to it will damage the finish. - Thanks for the tip! I will be looking into keeping some of this hand for future adventures.

NathanIngrao - I live south of you and I just did a mini version of what you did. I just picked up my 135i from Burbank CA and drove back to Florence AZ. I need a BMW friend around here. - Congrats on the 135! I am sure there are a few local BMW friends you have yet to discover.

330i* - Congrats! You might have to bring the car at one of the next car and coffee at the dealerships in North Scottsdale! Gorgeous car! - Thank you! I will definitely bring it by sometime!

Thank you to everyone's kind words about the car and for taking the time to read about my trip.

Nice! I even saw you that week driving south on the 101 here in Scottsdale with all the tape on the car. I passed you in the HOV lane around Via Linda in a debadged F10 Monte Carlo M5.

You gave a thumbs up as I went by.

You looked tired.

Reminds me my trip to NC Performance Center and drive home to CT, my black Pyrat looked almost like yours all taped up, drive through rain and a snow storm at the end of October...But it was one of the best trips i have taken.

Enjoy it.

Nice story and pics. You're not going to keep the tape on the car, do you? Looks a bit like some kind of prototype

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Cheers

OP - awesome pics and walkthrough. Now that it's been a few weeks, you should post up some impressions of the car
