Vinyl on my roof?

i am new to this whole vinyl fad, and i am now really wanting to gloss black vinyl the roof of my car. i have no idea what i should expect to pay or anything of the sort. the two quotes i have gotten are upwards of $400! i find that a little absurd considering how the materials are inexpensive. what should i look to pay? is this something that could be done by myself easily? help!

you gotta be kidding me LOL....the last car that i saw with style was my fathers red 1970 something Cadillac with a white vinyl top..classy LOL...that car embarrassed me so much i would not go in it...maybe a powder blue leisure suit with white shoes would work as the 2nd wild color scheme...vinyl sucks on floors and on cars is even worse....what are you thinking here????

What are you talking about??? I am sure jib is talking about the vinyl that is like a sticker or decal material not the vinyl like fake leather!

jib - black vinyl looks awesome on AW and if you do it right with rim color the car will look amazing! There are some pics in the photo forums and if you don't like it you can just remove it. Keep in mind that installing the vinyl is time consuming so it is the labour that drives up the cost and not the actual vinyl.

doing this to my car as we speak, to do it right takes time and patience. you can get the vinyl from www.bmwshadowline.com for a fair price and then have a ceritified vehicle wrapper do the installation for $100 or less easily. I'll post up a new thread with pics and details when mine is finished.

That's the first thing I thought, too. Maybe I'm too old for this thread.

Everyone has different tastes, of course, but man, people do weird things to their cars...

you could do the whole thing in a day but you will need an extra set of hands.

Hopefully mine will be done tomorrow evening. Between school and rotc I haven't had a chance to finish it. The shark fin I removed and painted with a gloss black krylon enamel. The roof rails were done with the roof and then cut and formed to the edges and roof rack ports. I'll try and get a more detailed thread and pics up tomorrow but it could be sat.

I'm taking delivery on a 2010 AW/CR 135i6mt on monday and i want to do this asap. Is. have this on my White G37sCoupe and it looks great, many many compliment. There is a guy who makes custom overlays for the Infiniti's already precut for 60 bucks, bluebatmobile.net, very good high quality piece. I'll be contacting him to see his interest on making them for the 1 series.

Material should cost $100-$150 you can get it done with a few buddies in 1-3 hours depending on how you work.

You can remove the shark fin. Definitely remove the side rails and wrap them separately. Use a credit card to tuck the front and back underneath the rubber trim.

Its not exactly a sticker, people worry about getting bubbles underneath. The material breathes so the air escapes.

Do some searches there have been a few posts about how to do this.

PM me if you need help, I can show you pics too.

I am with you. I like to think that I am not old but I do not understand the current love affair everyone seems to have with carbon fiber and vinyl. I guess I am now officially an old fart.

tried the DIY with $50 worth of vinyl.. i failed lol. Made sense to me why people can charge a lot for doing it.. any how the quotes I got from a couple places here in socal was 80 bucks (i provide my own material) roof only... and then another company said $350 (vinyl was provided for me). im going to another guy this weekend to see how much for roof/ tii stripes.
