Just look at them.
So because they are going for a trend they aren't car people? And how do you know they are trashy? You picked a pretty bad example on that m3, its a lower than you like, and has wider wheels with some camber to fit them in the wheel wells with the fenders rolled. That car is by no means ruined. You can put on the original shocks/springs, stock wheels/tires and it would be just like any other m3 on the market.

Do people really have that strong of opinions vs stance / tow hooks?

Everyone has different tastes and purposes for their cars. No one can tell anyone how to modify or get enjoyment out of their cars. I personally enjoy the variety and appreciate seeing different things.

I agree with this 100%. Seems like every time this topic comes up TheSt|G has to put is 2 cents in on how idiotic the scene is, how the people ruin cars, etc.

Also, EinserM had tow hooks on his car. I don't know if he tracked his car, but to me it seemed like he was using them for looks.

Yes, because they are following a trend they aren't car people. It's an interest that is unrelated, other then the car being the vehicle for their need to waste money on bling. Much like Escalade owners with donks, these people aren't car enthusiasts either.

Feel free to look at a stancewhatever event. It's hardly a Mensa meeting.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, you have your opinions so good for you. Get this thread back on topic.

I think the best way to answer this one is to go to car events and actually talk to someone that has a tow hook, in a non-threatening way. Just ask them. Everything is a dick measuring contest online and people are way too opinionated. If you talk to someone in person you actually have a rational discussion. You may find out that the person is just an idiot, or you may find out they decided to do it to try something different for a change. Who knows?

Being in an area where inbreeding runs rampant, the only cars I see with tow hooks are your classic cobalts or neons or hondas with huge wings, that never ever see track time. Every once and while it's a evo or a wrx. Most of the time the cars have rusty pieces showing and a giant fart cannon on it. Tow hooks should only be used on the track or when getting towed out of a ditch. To me it's like carrying a motorcycle helmet around and letting people think you ride a motorcycle. Not ever saying you do but leaving out the fact that you don't own a motorcycle. I carry the helmet around cause it looks cool. It's my opinion that it looks cool so I should be able to do it without anyone pointing it out?

I think people have the right to carry a motorcycle helmet regardless if they own one or not. I wouldn't care. I wouldn't start a thread online hating on them either or generalizing them or other people who do the same.

People always hate on the younger jdm tuning scene. Many of them are just are strong if not stronger enthusiasts than a lot of us. Sure their enthusiasm might be in a different place and their definition of cool might be different than some of ours but many of them put in a lot of work and time into their cars and get a ton of enjoyment- nothing wrong with that.

Of course there are people that give that scene a bad wrap but at the same time, people have many times told me BMW owners are dick heads - which we can agree isn't the case.

This! Always this! How can anyone possibly say they love cars if they want them all to be the same???

this just in, the st|g makes another grand proclamation about who are and are not "Car people". everyone is very surprised.

in related news, camber must be under two degrees and fender gap must be more than 20 millimeters on all four corners if you are to enter the courtesy tent at the next HPDE.

If someone has the right to do that then someone else should have the right to start a thread saying how annoying it is and asking the question why do they do it. It's someone's opinion on how it looks and they should be able to do it without being bashed or pointed out, nope. If you put it out there for everyone to view, everyone has the right to point it out and say it sucks and looks stupid when not used properly. Not generalizing at all. It's about the people that have tow hooks on all the time. Not jdm kids. Could be anyone. You can tell when someone put a lot of work into there car and when someone saw it in a magazine so they bought one online and threw it on with no actual work done to the car. Kudos to those that do it right and do track the car often and would rather just leave it on than continuously take it off and put it back on. Around here there are very, very few of those. And I'd be the first to say hi to them and talk about cars and listen to what they've done to there's. If they're going to put it out there they should be ready to stand by it and say it's my car not yours when people don't like it. I get that a lot with my car but too bad. I like it or it serves a purpose and it's my car. If someone asked why the hell would you do that and it's stupid I would say why I did it and/or I like it and move on.

People can say they do not like a mod and wouldn't have one on their personal car without condemning a whole group of people is more our point and that point goes much further than just this thread. Not trying to call you out specifically. I respect your opinion and tastes.

I find tow hooks to be a huge eye sore. Why draw attention to it?

Reviving (maybe) this old thread to ask a simple question:

For track use, does anyone have a suggestion for a decent folding tow hook for 135 M Sport that actually will stand up to a track tow?

Rennline, Bimmerworld and maybe others have (apparently) decent stainless steel hooks, and Turner has a tow strap ... which requires front bumper removal to install (I'm too lazy for that, sent it back).

So no, this isn't for street stance eye bling ruination. This is for the track. But I admit that I can't stand looking at the OE tow hooks even if they are very track-functional and cost only $28 a pop.

geeyore I'd suck it up and do the turner strap. Take the bumper off (takes like 10 minutes), then tuck it inside. Easily accessible when you need it, just take the cover off and pull it through.
