So i got this today

And my manifold get's installed tomorrow afternoon. It's been a good week. Will update, going to try and do the manifold and tune at the same time, for ultimate seat of the pants feel. Dyno will be scheduled next week if i can get in. Going to try and get pictures of whats going on but i can't guarantee anything great, probably some comparing manifolds and the big parts of the swap.

Grew up on dirt bikes, raced em, and have been riding on the street since i was 16 with my permit, bikes are second nature to me. Although I do have a tough time deciding between my car and bikes

That Sir is a beautiful bike... 600, 750, 1000?

I have been appreciating mine in the last weeks of Summer and have to laugh a little when I get into the BMW.. But the fit and finish is all worth it when it gets cold, and the heater is always welcome..

Enjoy the bike... That looks like a blast, and good luck on the manifold.

It's really an easy install, nothing to be afraid of.

600, probably will make the step to a 1000 in another two years or so.

@stig, yeah It looks very straight forward and i'm sure i could do it without issue, i just like having the peace of mind honestly.

Manifold is installed, went very smoothly. disconnected the vent hose from behind and then the rest once the manifold is off, I don't understand why people try and use needle nose pliers between the runners, that's just stupid. I can feel the DISA valves working, although not always correctly. The tune isn't on yet, i'm hoping that will take care of the jutteriness of the flaps opening and closing at various RPM. Will update more later tonight as i have class soon.

bad news, took it out for a drive and my SES light came on. the hesitation turns out to be a misfire on cylinder three. any ideas why? I have 48,434 miles. I'm thinking the plugs need to be swapped but any other ideas would be great. this happened before the tune, and post tune.

edit: gonna swap coil on cyl 3 to cyl 4 and see if the misfire moves, if so i'll replace the coil pack.

Sounds like a good plan so far.

I think you will want fresh plugs - or at least ones in good shape - for the dyno. Swapping parts is a good idea to diagnose the problem but replacing what you know you need to replace is also a good idea. It is not unusual to do something like your plug replacement and see a problem disappear.

yup I'm gonna do plugs and probably all 6 coil packs, just want to ensure its a hardware issue and not a software issue. it still misfire this morning when I get on it hard, though it didn't throw any check engine lights. hopefully it does on the way home(ironic) so I can verify that it's the coil pack causing the issue.

edit: bought 6 new Bosch plugs and 6 new coil packs. go big or go home, eh?

I certainly would do them all at once. Nothing worse than having to do the same project twice.

will do, I'm confident it's a coil pack issue, as n52s are notorious for having them fail, I'm a bit below the normal mileage but with the Modding it makes sense. I'll have the dyno done post plugs and coil packs.

Finally got it to throw the code today, the misfire moved to cylinder 2, therefore it is the coil pack. I'll have the new packs and plugs on tuesday and they'll be in that day if i'm off from work, if not they won't be in until the following monday. Dyno will be scheduled for that week regardless if i can get in.

Nice to see it wasn't anything with the install, I couldn't imagine what might have caused that.

I knew it wasn't the install, the guy that did the work is flawless and cares for every car he works on like his own. He basically cleans the engine bay as he works . But yeah it definitely made me feel less worse about it, as soon as i felt the misfire i wondered "What the hell did i just do to the my car?". However, when it pulls right, it definitely has a ton more low end torque, and more power throughout the rev range. Though its less smooth, it revs up faster through the rev range.

There is definitely a noticeable power shift at 4.5k rpm.

All plugs and coil packs replaced, misfire gone and a smoother startup+idle. After finally getting some seat time with a well running engine, she pulls MUCH harder after 4.5-5k all the way to red line. The torque on the low end is very noticeable as i can use 4th when i used to use 3rd(traffic wise). After 5k it sort of feels like a vtec kick, except a less dramatic kick and no noise change(thankfully) Ill have a dyno next week with some factual evidence.
