New shift knob doesn't fit in.

Hi
I recently purchased a walnut shift knob for auto. I was successful with pulling it out, but somehow the new one doesn't fit into the hole. I once tried really hard, but still like 1/4 inch of the tip(the side which should go into the gearbox) remains not inserted. When I look at new and old knobs side by side, length of those two are little different. New one is just exactly 1/4 inch longer. Is it just right or did I get irregular one? Anyone has same experience? I was told shift knob just fits in like glove, but
Help! help!

I was thinking of getting a walnut knob too....but since you're having such a hard time installing it...maybe not. Somehow my 330i ended up with a aluminum knob with walnut trim ....hahaha..........I know....I know....options...options!

That really stinks that it does not fit!!! I agree...you should be able to order that part the way you want from the get go.

Lucky for me....I got alum trim...so no issues here.

Good luck getting them installed!! Hopefully you will not need to go to the dealer for some

I bet u got wrong one for another car?
I would send it back & get correct one.
I bought mine from dealer & I watched them install it.
Took apprx. 1 minute to pull off old one & push on the new one.

If you don't mind could you please take pictures of your new shift knob unistalled? I want to see the total length of your new knob compare to my brother's. If you can take picture with stock shift knob, that would be awsome. By the way I'm kidd0223's little bro. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't want to try to pull new one off as I may screw it up?
I checked today with old one side by side and they are exact size knobs.
If yours is not same length etc. then it's not for the e90?

That's what I got, however it is not the same length as Stock Shift Knob.

I bought this from Pacific BMW, but do you think I can exchange to correct Knob at the BMW of Santa Barbara? Will they accept?

Dont think they will exchange since they did not sell it.

Does the new knob work properly ( without being installed ) ?
If I remember correctly the "stick" part should retract when you press the button on the knob.

Just thinking that maybe it has something lose inside/not properly connected that is causing the "stick" part to stick out further.

You could maybe ask BMW of Santa Barbara if they have one to compare and see if its just yours that is different or if they all come like that.

Just installed mine last night, and initially, I had the same problem as you with 1/4 inch sticking out. Then I applied quite a bit of pressure from the top and it snaps right in. Like you, I had no problems removing it, just pulls off. Hope this helps.

Great, so it works perfectly ?

This will help others if they change to the wood knob
