Aluminum shortage?

My dealer tells me there's an aluminum shortage that's preventing my car from going into 112 status. Can anyone verify this?

LOL there was a "wood shortage" a few weeks ago - perhaps people switched their ordered and used up more aluminium than predicted. Or perhaps this is a delaying tactic, or perhaps the guy/gal who orders the trim bits is going to be flipping burgers soon...

I just heard that there is a gas pedal shortage. Apparently the gas pedal orchards have been over harvested in recent years without enough re-planting.

dealers ... they will never stop surprising me with their stories ...
By the way: Aluminium, although doesn't grow on trees, is the
third most abundant element in the earth's crust.
Please tell this to the dealer .....

I call bullshit on this one. Dealers seem to say the first thing that pops into their head at the moment. My 330, which I just ordered a couple of weeks ago, is in production and on schedule. No aluminum shortage here.

Correct. It is also free, and available, whereas it seems aluminum and wood are not.

I'm with you. This reminds me of a news item I once heard on the BBC World Service in which the presenter said in the standard trustworthy BBC style that there had been a spaghetti crop failure in Italy and that there would be a world-wide shortage of spaghetti that year. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that it was April 1st and that I had been had.

I guess the moral of the story is that only a fool believes everything (s)he reads on the internet without thinking. Because of the anonymity, there are trolls about everywhere, fortunately not often in this forum although I have seen occasional posts that have all the earmarks. The original poster may indeed have been passing on something he heard but I am not sure I would believe everything I hear from every car salesman. A few are very good and know their business but most others….

Agreed. i was skeptical because i'm on the boards a lot and only heard about a wood shortage a little while ago. but, my salesperson is a straight shooter who hasn't wieseled me yet during the whole process...so who knows.

Quite correct. There is no aluminum shortage. Or a wood shortage (nor was there ever). Gullable.

Well in Canada they seemed to not want to produce cars with wood. It seems wierd that they would turn down a $585 option, no? I told him to cancel the order, because the car was not I wanted without wood. He was ready to do so reluctantly (who wants to lose an order?).

Anyway, someone took my Subaru lease, so I caved and changed to titanium because I need a car.
