I plan to go with H-rated 225s, but I live in the Boston metro area and there are many winter days when the roads are clear. If I was in a more extreme climate (as I have lived in the past), I would definitely go with 205s (shod with Nokian Hakkapeliittas). 205s might not be an ideal tire for the 135i, but if you value snow performance over all else, it's a better choice.

It really depends on how you like to drive. I'd recommend a 225 if you still want to maintain some of the handling characteristics of the 135i and not lose too much in the snow. Overall you won't notice that much of a difference, but the squared setup is definitely the route you want to go. Being able to rotate the tires is key, as you want these to last a while! I've had great experiences with the Dunlop Wintersport M3 on my 2008 Mini Cooper S JCW and my fiancee runs Blizzak LM25's on her 08 VW GTI, same set for 3 seasons. We both run 205's Best of luck with your decision! |

205's work better in deep snow and slush, 225's work better on packed snow when the tyre can't bite through to the road, as you can put more sipes in contact with the surface across the tyre width. On ice, the tyre width is not too important with a studless tyre, it is all about the rubber compound and contact patch area.
I used to run 205's on my BMWs here in Calgary, switched to 225's due to the fact we don't get a lot of deep snow and have a lot of cold bare roads in the winter too. |

Good Answers here
I have to say 205's too. They will also give you more protection against potholes and generally bad roads [I know Mtl well]. Hakks are probably the best however you can't go wrong with Bridgestone, Dunlop, Michelin and maybe the best bang for the buck, General Altimax.
