If its not liking it, you can easily add a little more 93, or even e85 if the car is liking it.

True, but at that point, why not just fill on 102 instead? 2 octane less, but less chance of car acting up.

Like I said, flex fuel wires are on the way.

Really curious to see how your E85 experiments go. Thanks for doing the hard part for the rest of us. lol

Also, will you not be trying Map 7 with E85?

Well, the Aral 102 is actually 95 US advertised octane. So you would have a much higher octane rating using a e85 mix. But you could also mix the Aral 102 and e85 and get even more.

Thats awesome, hopefully the package comes quickly. Any idea what the flex fuel wires actually do? I can't find any information on them aside from "if you want to run e85, you need the flex fuel wires".

I would run Map 7 if I had the flex fuel wires, and could run a normal, high E85 fuel mix. Since I can only run a lower mix if I decide to try it out, then I will have to only run Map5.

This was on the Procede website for the N54, but I am guessing it is the exact same thing.

What Is It?
The heart of our Flex-Fuel module is a Siemens Fuel Composition/Temp sensor. This sensor intercepts into the factory fuel supply line using the supplied plug-and-play push-in fuel hoses. It is firmly secured to your inner fender using a supplied mount. The sensor's output signal feeds into the PROcede's Flex-Fuel signal input via plug-and-play harness. By monitoring this sensor's signal output, the PROcede is able to detect the precise amount of ethanol in the fuel. With this valuable information, the PROcede is able to alter fuel, ignition timing and boost settings accordingly to achieve ideal combustion and power. Also included in the package is a PROcedeFlash DME update that eliminates various fuel/ignition restrictions present in the factory DME code.

Why Is It Important?
Unlike the gasoline formulations available at fuel stations across the country, E85 formational varies significantly depending on time of year and geographic location. This means that the actual ethanol content of E85 can be as low as 70% or as high as 90% depending on these external variables. And since ethanol is the component that is largely responsible for in-cylinder cooling and knock suppression, it is critical for the tuning solution to know actual ethanol content in order to proactively adjust fuel, ignition and boost curves accordingly. It is no surprise that all OEM FlexFuel vehicles around the world are equipped with the same or similar sensors.

What Kind of Performance Gains Should I Expect?
On a n54 powered BMW running nothing more than a set of dual cone intakes, expect gains of approximately 140WHP and 140LB-FT when running with an ethanol mixture of at least 60% (approximately 50% E85 and 50%

After reading that, I think we should wait for sure before trying any E85 mix. Just would feel safer at this point.

From reading the install directions for the flex fuel wires from BMS, all you are doing really is allowing the jb4 to intercept the Fuel rail sensor, which leads me to believe it is able to manipulate your fuel trims by adding fuel by tricking the ECM into thinking you need more fuel rail pressure. You also need to splice 2 wires coming from the TMAP.

So, the proceed and BMS flex fuel kits are different. The proceed actually measures the fuel composition, and the BMS kit intercepts the fuel rail sensor.

Don't you mean "I will have to splice 2 wires while you sit back and pray I don't mess anything up on your car, and drink a beer and pay me back with whatever I may ask of you"?

Ok, so i found out what the Aral 102 is. It is not 102 OCT like we are used to seeing on our pumps in the states. Our octane rating comes from RON + MON / 2(known as AKI). Aral 102 has a RON of 102, MON of 88, which makes it 95 octane to our standards.
Info found here: Octane Rating Wiki

There is a Shell down the street that offers V-Power Racing Fuel.... I looked it up and says it's 100 RON and couldn't see if it was mixed with any MON. How would I search for this further?

From that wiki link "Shell V-Power in Italy and Germany: ron100 mon88". So its 94 octane US.

Whats the per liter price on that? Too bad ESSO didn't carry that or the aral 102.

Yes. Most of the US Christmas traditions have their roots in Germany. Nearly every country that uses the Gregorian Calender celebrates NYE, we'll just get it 9 hours before you do.

Nice, sounds like your n55 is putting down some power. Wish I could tag along for another epic dyno day!

I upgraded my JB interface but the firmware is still the same version as I have. I'm not ready to do the ISO update, at least not while it's still marked "beta."

I switched to map 2 the other day. It feels stronger but also has a worse (lumpier) idle. I'll try to do some logging this weekend if I can get my buddy to ride along. Any tips for doing logging runs with a DCT?

Put a little wood block behind your pedal so you don't get the downshift. Log from 2k to 7k in 3rd gear, but that may be difficult on our fastbahns. 4th will work. After the pull is complete and you stopped the log(F2), export an image and .CSV. Post up the image and CSV and I can give you a virtual dyno pic if you like and look at the log.
