iDrive Upgrade

Hi guys,

My car currently runs the gen1 idrive system (flip up) and is it possible to upgrade to the current gen2 version?. Im aware theres afew m3's with the conversion done online here and there but none with the 135i yet or atleast im aware of...

I know its possible (everything is) but will be time consuming and a costly process... however unless you have a gen 1 idrive u wont understand the pain As you all know the two systems are very different and its a price im willing to pay for the conversion (to a reasonable amount).

So does anyone know anymore on this issue, or atleast where to start?

Sorry I can't help, I too know the pain of the old idrive and it's more trouble than it's worth. If you find a solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, let me know because I know someone wanting the same thing. I actually delayed the order of my car by a couple months so I could get the new system. Good luck

thought about it however I wont get alot of money for the trade in... Plus whats the point in replacing a 135i with another 135i? and there isnt really any other new BMW I desperately want as the 135i tick all the boxes for a daily car.

I guess i wouldnt mind the DCT too, but the end of the day im happy with my current car... it hasn't got alot of kms anyway or maybe im just to emotionally attached to it.

I thought there is a indi company(in the states) that offers SW updates for older BMW iDrive's. I remember seeing someone here posting it before. ???

Trying to put in a new dash would be nuts! But having newer SW version might be nice. I am glad I did not opt for iDrive. lol

Then you miss out on the awkward moment when you're driving a male friend, and you both reach for the knob to change the song.

Bonding experience.

Hmmm...never thought of that. Just have to till him to keep his hand off your knob! My kids fight over the music, I just listen to the engine.

However, I can only listen to Lady Gaga so many times before I turn the thing off and we all have to listen to the grumble of the V8.

That would be a funny sight to see a V8 M3 cruising around with Lady Gaga playing

Haha guys back on track, so for those who has the professional nav how much does it cost as an option from the dealer? I got a quote from a vendor which I think isn't too bad for the parts required, however fitting and getting it work is another issue.

Yeh, they never listen. I'm fine with the missus fiddling with my knob though

I don't see how you could ever listen to gaga over the V8.

IIRC, ~$5,000 factory option. The fitting is gonna be an absolute bitch, you're gonna have to rip out your old nav and then make sure the hole is big enough for the larger pro nav screen.

Yep, from what i've read..

I just have to do my homework.... now i know its possible but i have to figure out how to install it. At $3200 for a basic quote isnt as bad as i thought, however fitting the damn thing i would imagine be quite a pain in the arse cause i definitely have no knowledge.

Sorry for bumping my old thread, But guys have you seen this?

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513801

I was going to give up the idea of upgrading to the CIC iDrive but i'm looking into it again. I don't want to miss out on all the new technology available!

I just got it in my new C-Class and the COMMAND system is bloody brilliant. I hope this is just as good.
