New front brake cost?

Just ran outta warranty and am looking at having to put on new front brakes.

What have some of you paid for Front rotors, pads, fluid, bleed...total job cost?

Also, What does a oil change cost too?

you can get an entire stoptech kit for less than that price haha.

http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/73A5865A0A0.aspx

Edit: I guess its only for the 128. i thought they had them for both cars.

but then you'd also have to add labor for all that work.

I'm looking into doing brakes on all four corners. Dealership estimated $1250 for all parts and labor (pads, sensors, rotors). That took some negotiating to get to. Material cost alone for all four corners (pads, sensors, rotors) is $850 from getbmwparts.com. I was able to get the dealership to admit to labor per side which was quoted as 2 hrs for front and 2 hours for rear at $100 per hour. I'm guessing an indy could shave a few dollars of labor off.

You should also figure in 2l of brake fluid and one hour to bleed the four brake corners and reset the BC lights. IF you have waited too long to replace your brakes - sometimes a "hard reset" will be needed at a dealer for the BC service lights.

Dack, BMW changed my brake fluid a few month back. Do they need to replace, or just top off?

Anytime you do brake work, its best to bleed the brakes. There will always be some micro air bubbles inside the caliper. So yea, I would have the brakes bled again.

And actually IF you just had the brake fluid changed... and added... when the brake pistons get pushed back in... the fluid in the brake res will probably over flow the res. Maybe remind the tech/SA about that.

What part of that are you finding off? The price of oem parts, the labor rate? Looks to be around 2 hours labor at about $100 per hour. Most indi shops will be around the same price, unless they are going to use non-oem parts.

I recently bought rotors and pads to do it myself through AutoAnything. I got Stoptech slotted rotors and EBC red. I'm happy with it except for one thing.

I found out the hard way that the rotors are very heavy. They're solid iron. This isn't anything surprising, though the expensive BMW Performance rotors are significantly lighter, largely because they use an aluminum hat.

Well it turns out that the stock rotors use an aluminum hat too. The Stoptech front rotors weigh about 24 lbs and the stock ones weigh about 19 lbs. If I had known that, I'd have bought stock rotors instead.

Just be aware of difference when shopping.

Part cost: $520.39
Labor est: 2 hrs x $110/hr (varies) = $220
So your cost is in the $740 range + shipping + tax

Oil Change: Service Kit OEM: $68.95

If you have a friend with the right tools, labor usually goes down to pizza and beer. The jobs listed are the staples of your home mechanic.

Do the prices you listed also include the wear sensors?

Wear sensors are a separate item and only need to be replaced if actually worn down. It's $35/sensor and there are only 2 (front left, and rear right). Replace as needed.

the dealer told me 900 per axle to do the brakes - haha - he was trying to sell me the extended maintenance plan and scare me into it i guess - i don't want them touching my car and 1800 to do all 4 is beyond ridiculous!
