OT: Mark Webber - can he do it?
As some of you know, i'm an F1 nut.
Just wanted to know whether some of you think Webber has what it takes this year? He's shown good form on a number of courses (high speed and low speed), and he's in form coming into the middle of the season when it counts (when chronic engine issues start rearing their heads for teams). Could it be a Webber F1 World Championship? |

I hope he can do it. He hasn't been too consistent in the past however he seem to have come good this year.

I mean seriously, a qualification history so far being 1-2-1-1-1 is just awesome. I think he's finally able to convert poles to wins now that he has a reliable, solid car. |

I really hope he does! But he has always had consistency issues, and the rest of the pack will start to close the downforce gap. Also needs to keep ahead of Vettel who is spectacular!

Gutted for Webber and you guys! He was having a good race until that happened. Glad he still kept a podium finish though!

That's twice now - remember China a few years ago - that would have been his first win.
This time it would have been his first hat trick

It is a shame what happened but that's racing - crazy dickhead stuff does happen!
In a way this plays pretty well into Webber's hands in the big picture as this makes the gap between the two - who are pretty much each others main rivals. So all is not lost! McLaren has improved like crazy though, really impressive stuff. Just wish Alonso gets his act together! Looking to be an awesome year! |

Yes it was, I must be getting old.
Mark still going strong - for once even with his bad luck, he still finished in points. Red Bull should have an advantage for the remaining races, probably except Spa.

Webbers still first in the championship. Vettel dropped to fifth with no points from Turkey. The kid gets what he deserves!

I like Red Bull think Webber was in the wrong and Vettel in the Right.
Yes Mark, give Vettel the bare minimum amount of room, but there are (and this is Key) TEAMMATES and once the pass is clearly going to happen, there is no reason for Mark to Force the issue that hard. To me it looked like Vettel was struggling with one tire slightly off the edge of the track and was try to stay on the track, and once there were next to each other Webber is the only one who can move over and provide a greater margin for error. If there were not teammates I would likely see it a little differently but not a lot... because in the end. Mark cost himself second place and 5 points, because at any point he could have give up 1st but secured Second from http://www.formula1.com/news/intervi...0/5/10855.html Q: Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said he didn’t believe it was Vettel’s fault. Is this the official opinion of the team? Red Bull’s motorsport consultant, Dr Helmut Marko : Well, in the situation Sebastian was in, he had no other choice than to act the way he did. Q: Will you change something in the future to avoid such an incident happening again? HM: Well, first of all we always told them that it is a strict no-go to go to the wall with each other. Whatever happens they always have to give room to the other. I hope that all the people involved will think a bit more in the future before acting. Q: That suggests that one of the two should have given way to the other… HM: Yes. Q: And you will discuss with them who that should have been … HM: Yes. Q: Is it true that the team gave instructions to Mark Webber’s race engineer to let Sebastian Vettel pass because otherwise Lewis (Hamilton)would be able to overtake? HM: That is not correct, because that would mean a team order. We informed Mark about the situation and it is for the driver to decide. The fact is that if Sebastian hadn’t passed he would have been overtaken by Hamilton. |

Complete bullshat that Mark was in the wrong. If you view the front-on video from the incident, there was 2-3ft between the outside of Vettel's tyres and the edge of the track.
Then, you can CLEARLY see Vettel steer into Mark. Even Vettel admitted he "lost the car". All you need to do is watch this telecast footage from 1:03... |

Even being on the White paint is a large difference in traction If you are on the inside and your front wheels are at or in front of the Driver (or drivers door in touring cars) you have the right on way and the other drive needs to give you space. Vettel had made the pass. Yes Mark gave Seb some space, the size of a F1 car + 6" but there is not reason for Webber not to give a more reasonable about of space. Mark risk his and Seb's Race when he did not need too. |

If Vettel was in the right, and had enough space to pass, then he should have been in front of Webber, not beside him. He was not far enough ahead to claim the pass in my opinion. It was not a safe move to begin with!

Vettel didn't have many choice but to steer slowly to right to gain some space, it is Weber's misjudgment that didn't give him enough space for Turn-in for that turn, which is darn slow turn.
