I got a call from the dealer and the parts are in. I'm going to bring it in on Feb 6 because I'm out of town traveling on business until then, I will let everyone know of the problem gets fixed after that.

It's done. After a long wait for the parts to come in from Germany and having the time to bring it in to the dealer, I'm happy to report that the wind noise from the windows it's gone. Now, noise level is normal and it does not feel like the windows are open.
If any of you has that issue, simply bring a copy of the TSB and tell them to do as it says. Good luck.... |

wow, I am motivated to get this fixed... believe it or not, Dietrich went on his first official road trip this past weekend (though he'd been on the highway lots) and the noise WAS annoying, and beyond what I thought it would be... to the point where I had to turn up the stereo a lot more than usual, and the automatic volume adjustment (which has worked like a charm in the city the whole time) wasn't cutting it...

^^^ I'm glad you are motivated. It really made a huge difference. That was the only thing that I hated about the car and now that it's fixed is just a joy to drive. I like everything about it. Yea, there are small stupid things mentioned in this site that could have been better but they are not an issue to me. I find my self with a big smile every time I drive it.

Glad I saw this thread. I was actually thinking about the amout of noise coming from my side earlier today...even though there is a TSB, do you think they might give me trouble cuz my windows are tinted? maybe try to blame it on them?

I don't think so. Obviously the problem is not because of the tint since BMW knows about and created the TBS. Print a copy and bring it to them. I will take some time for them to order the parts and you provably have to take it in twice but it's worth it.

WOW... I am so excited to hear about this b/c this too is the only REAL disappointment with my car (had it since March '08) and have been truly suffering through it. Thanks again guys - this site comes through again. I am printing it off now. Wish me luck!! Thanks again.

Thanks to monacodream for pointing me to this thread. I just made a thread about this today (thought I might be the only one). Going to call the dealer on this.

glad to see everyone getting their cars fixed!
on the side note, there isn't a TSB concerning the air noise coming from the sun roof, but i got around to get my sunroof glass seal/gasket replaced. i adjusted the glass and now the sound is gone. it's not 100% quiet, but i'd say it's pretty damn good. you can only hear a slight (i mean SLIGHT) air leak above 90 mph. hope that helps. |

So, I am very curious now...What is "normal" noise? I've certainly had the same concern with my 1er. But I've had a hard time trying to decide what is acceptable. For those that have had this fix done, is there ANY noise? Is the wind reduced to a whisper?
I guess I'd like to know if there was a dramatic change. Also, I wonder if this is simply a problem on ALL of our cars and we should just get the fix done regardless of what we think is acceptable or unacceptable noise levels. Thanks in advance.

^ +1. There is wind noise in mine, but you have to listen for it. I consider it "acceptable", but who knows, it might not be for this car

The noise is louder than it normally should be. I dont know how to qualify it, but it does not seem to be normal. That was my reaction to it and I heard it since day 1. I just assumed that I would have to live with it until I searched this site and found it to be an issue.
If you think it sounds louder than it should. Take it in. As I describe in an earlier post, after the seal was replaced I took the car up to 100 and there is still a noise. But it's normal, not loud. |

Normal to me is when the window does not feel like is open a crack. I'm not implying that my car is now sound proved but I don't have that air feeling next to my ear anymore. I can hear the win if I go fast but it's an outside win noise. I don't know how to explain it better.
I rent lots of cars when I travel for work and one day Hertz gave me one of those Chrysler convertible with no window frame. That thing was allot better than my 1er in regards to win noise. That day I knew then that my 1er had a problem and that noise was not normal. Quote:

^^shouldn't have to worry. tint is on the inside. the adjustment for the window is on the outer side of the window regulator. just be wary of any damages before you go in and after you pick up the car.
