Talking BMW OEM Carbon Fiber Spoiler Installed

its still curing guys but heres the CF spoiler installed on my 1M

I used 3M Automotive grade double faced tape. Make sure the trunk is warm I let mine sit in the sun for about 30 minutes also used a heat gun to keep the tape at a good setting point. Painters tape used to keep pressure on the spoiler and hold it in place for 24Hrs. Used the microfiber cloths to keep the pressure down on the corners. Prepped the trunk with rubbing alcohol also.

lol I've installed this before on my 135i...no need for all that tape or letting it cure for 24 hours. Install it, wait 20-30 minutes (max) and you're good to go!

Great addition though, I'm buying this again for my 1M.

Oh trust me so am I...it doesn't get anymore car-OCD than this, but I can assure you that your spoiler is not going anywhere. In fact, I didn't use any of the tape or waiting 24 hours, and when the time came to part and remove it from the car it was a royal pain to remove.

She's good to go!

One question... Do you have to remove the original or goes in top of the pre-installed?
If so, how do you remove the previous?

OEM must be removed first. Here you go:

+1. You'd be surprised what 3M tape can do! Remember the OEM spoiler is attached with just the double-sided tape. Also, the point of spoiler is to provide down force by the air pressing on it, so air forces are always working with the tape (pressing down) and never against it.

Physics dictate that the front of the tape will experience a pull. What helps is that the spoiler itself does not generate the full down force: rather the different airflow above the car generates extra downward pressure earlier in the airflow (on trunk & rear window)

Agreed, however, when looking at all vector forces, the downward force exerted on the spoiler's upper surface is greater than any opposite force, resulting in an overall downward force.

I think you should leave the tape on it. It give it a certain "je ne sait quois."

Would you be able to take a photo from a bit further away from the car?
