lets just be glad we didnt buy the shelby gt500 when it first came out in 2007 thinking it might be collectible, talk about watering down a brand.

According to the Audi boys there are an extra 400, however 150 are already sold so 250 still available.

So in total there will be 900 RS3s in the UK

An going to enjoy winding my next door neighbour up when I see him, as only about 6 weeks ago, he was chuffed that he was able to negociate a deal on what was supposedly the last RS3 available to order in the UK.

Think he's gonna be a bit pissed off

Well at least he was able to negotiate a deal!

I thought I read way back, that there were going to be 450 RS3s just like the 1M.

It wasn't much of a deal, as they were telling him it was the last one, so if he snoozed, he'd loose.

So funny.....

This happens so much. I'm still amazed BMW didn't cave to demand pressures. They could have increased production and sold every 1M they built. When all the reviews were rolling out and I already had my car I figured it would happen.
I know a guy who paid huge money to get one of the Ford Shelby 500's back in 06. He put the thing in a climate controlled time capsule thinking he was going to protect a rare gem. Next year Ford increased production to some big number and he's had a perpetual double face palm going on ever since.

Mad props to BMW for sticking to their plan and not being a typical company.

Did you buy the 1M as an investment or a collectors item or did you buy it because it is an awesome car to drive?

Does it bother you that if there were more 1M's produced that there would be more 1M's or that there are now more people who will also have 1M's?

I think the only part of a new run of 1M's that would bother me is if the original release MSRP price of the car was adjusted based on the notion that there would only be x number of them. And then there were dealers if I remember who were charging above sticker for them because they knew they'd be in demand! That's the criminal part I could see happening here if BMW did what Audi did.

Because I liked the concept, package and eye appeal of the 1M. Pretty invitational to be poked.

Just shows how Audi treat their customers. Buy a limited run car and they then produce more, thus devaluing the price and rarity. Would never buy another Audi

You are dreaming!

BMW are just as bad, they have tripled the planned and advertised allocation in Australia (100 --> 300), it is just business after all. If they can sell them and they have production capacity then they will build them. I feel ripped off, one of the reasons I bought was scarcity/rarity, example being that the local dealer (the only one) in my city had 3 cars allocated, they have now sold 12.

On the plus side I am looking at buying another one so I shall stop the rant now.

Lots of snobby attitudes on here.

Ooooo, you bought a car because of it's "exclusivity"?
And now you'd be pissed tlat the auto maker made a few more because there is a market for it?

Did you buy the car because of it's performance and attributes, or because of snobbish rarity and resale value?
That's rhetorical, BTW.

Isn't that effectively the same thing?

I know I desperately rang around to get one based on the fact that there were only to be 100 cars allocated to australia, ordering from a dealer 850km from home as the local shop had sold all 3 (plus two on the waiting list) of his allocation. Further, pricing was at list, 'no discounting' was the order o f the day from BMW Australia as this was a limited car, unlike every other M car they have sold, aside from the CSL of course

Anyway, the local cars for sale are all at or above the new car retail price new, bodes well I think, very very few cars in this country have ever had that luxury. I know I have never bought a new car at list price before let alone had one to sell that potentially would lose single digit % on resale.

I am still happy with that side of the car, not to mention how fun it is

I know right. It just like ten years ago when Ferrari basically doubled the production of Enzos out of nowhere.

Those bastards! Giving us more great cars to play with!

For some posters it seems the latter. No one else should be allowed to enjoy certain model cars other than those got in on the ground floor right?

I do agree it isn't very nice of a manufacturer to say it will be a limited run and get people into the dealership spending over MSRP and then turn around and build more.

Spending over MSRP is generally a US phenomenon. You won't see many, if any, Europeans that have paid over 'sticker'. Ditto for buyers from Australia/Africa, don't recall anyone reporting such.

Anything extra over MSRP gets pocketed by dealers, not the manufacturer, hence why dealer shenanigans give the manufacturer a black eye, when in reality the manufacturer has little to no control over what dealers want to (and generally do) do (at least in the US).

We are getting over MSRP here in Aus.... for the few new cars still available (cancelled orders and the like). Interestingly the used prices here are really crazy, some at 25% over MSRP (that's not to say that they will sell at the price point however).

Hah, interesting, has this always been the case even early on in production (e.g. last yr), or is it this last hoorah/wave that is really penting up the demand?

I can only guess that there are those who think they can sell a used car at that price and hence they are trying the water as they say. I have "heard" that there has been some used cars sold through dealers at way over a new cars' price.

Early on there were very few available through the largest website for used cars in Aus, the number of cars on that site has fluctuated over the past 12 months, generally there has been between 3 - 7 cars available on there at any one time (all used of course). The demand for used cars was somewhat watered down as a result of the increase in the initial allocation of new 1M's, 100 cars initially, to where it stands now at ~250+. So if you wanted one you could get one, that's clearly not going to be the case over the coming months as the last NEW cars are delivered.

Will be interesting to watch the used 1M market moving forward.
