Not one bit. Neither does changing wheels.

It does not affect the tire monitor system as I have noticed. It works the same way as with RFL tires.

If the run-flat will to suffer a puncture, can it be patched up like the way the normal tire does ?

Well, you will get mixed answers. Bridgestone says yes as long as the tire has not been driven on while flat for very far. If you can keep the pressure in the tire up long enough to get to a tire shop, as long as the tire would have been patchable as a regular tire, it will be patchable as a run-flat. That's why I carry a compressor and sealant anyway, so that if I get a fast leaking puncture, I can get it to stop leaking long enough to get the tire repaired so I don't have to rely on the sidewalls of the run-flat. (which will then cause it to need replacement). The major difference in run flats is in the stiffness of the sidewall.

The puncture can not be anywhere near the sidewall of the tire. (though this is true for non run flats also).

maybe it's a weird US deal where pirelli has exclusive rights to that size for a limited time in exchange for developing that size for BMW
Yes, we're sure. My 325i w/ sport package came with Bridgestones.

As an aside, my originally ordered 325/sport came with Pirellis.

I think it's just luck of the draw which one you get.

tread life longer?????

I don't get the assertion that non run flats will have greater tread wear.

Non Sport tires will have greater treadwear than sporst, but is there any significant difference in the wear between similar tires...iec run flat sport and non run flat sport???

treadlife has nothing to do with runflat or non runflat, it's all about compounds used on the tread. Some runflats will last forever and some non runflats will be bald in 4000 miles, and vice versa

I'm very happy so far with my tires. I have the standard 16" Bridgestones and they are smooth and quiet. Hopefully they will wear well too.

I recently got non runflat 18" wheel/tires... I don't notice a huge difference in ride quality... but it does run a little smother...

I got the impression from this board that a tire can't be patched after sealant has been used - are you sayung this isn't the case?

You wouldn't need a sealant for runflat tires...Even for the cars with the sealant stuff, you can patch it, but you need to clean all that foam gunk out first.

Runflats can be patched as long as you do it correctly.

Good Question...

Does going to non-run flats, affect the tire prssure monitoring system?
Where is the sensor that measures tire pressure?

Not one bit. Doesn't matter what kind of tires or wheels you have on. The tire pressure monitoring system monitors the rotation at each wheel, and one of them is off, then it determines that to be a flat. Has nothing to do with the tire or wheels you have on the car.

Vettes, Porsches, Mercedes, Ferraris, and numerous other manufacturers install run flats on their vehicles so uhm they can't be that bad. Thats why I'm getting 18" BBS's instead of 19"'s so I can keep my runflats. Also if I get a flat I know I can make it to a tire repair shop and not be stranded. Just my opinion
