I have to hold in the button for my memory seats?

I was wondering, I noticed I had to hold the button for as long as it takes for the memory seats to get back to the set position. It's not like I can just press it and it goes back. What gives?

i believe they do that for liability reasons, so if u push the memory button and the position of the seat starts to crush someone or if they get a something stuck the seat doesn't keep moving, im not 100% on that though

I figured this out on my E46, if you open the door and push your memory button, the seat will move by itself. If you have the key in the ignition, you have to press and hold. Another one of those safety things.

Yup. It's so that if you are driving, and decide to change your seat position, and you push the wrong memory button - it could move your seat to the completely wrong position (say far back- where you can't reach the contols) hence causing an accident.

I believe all cars are like this :-)

This is similar to the setup on pretty much any car I have ever driven with memory seats. If I accidentally pressed my wife's setting, I would be crushed (6'2" vs 5'4").

One time I had a very short woman come into work (I'm a valet) and the other guy parked it. When I went to get the car I got in and the seat kept going forword and forword and I almost got crushed. It was a benz, and a little old lady (less than 5 feet tall) and I'm about 5'9". So I can understand why they wouldn't do that at least in the US where we are lawsuit happy.

on audis the memory seat buttons also include a big red "STOP" button. in audi's case, pressing "2" once will move the seat all the way but you can always cancel it by hitting stop.

Speaking of memory seats..I thought memory positioning, mirror settings etc belonged to the FOB...so whoever uses their key it's supposed to adjust but this didnt work for me..anyone get this to work?

It works for me. This has been discussed in earlier forums already. The bottom line is that you are suppose to set to change seat and mirrors position for both of your keys via iDrive. I think the option is something like "When door opens", or "When door is unlocked". Just remember to set it for all your keys since idrive selections are key dependent.

I hit the button once the other day and it changed setting without holding it.
