then should we keep all the nice car in museum with protection? Nice and ugly is base on whos scale? maybe for me, bmw is nice and $$$ car, but for someone else, just like buying a bigger size toy to their kids. Just like what I saying, there are no law says beginner should start with old car or any car is under $15,000.

I think what Ward is trying to say is that, teenagers in general are sometimes more careless and aren't careful so they shouldn't start off with a BRAND NEW 30k+ BMW. A lot of people when starting off with their license, are not yet extremely comfortable with driving and are therefore proned to hit things here and there. So regardless of how rich you mayyyy be.. wouldn't you as a parent who bought the car, feel less hurt if your kid scratched a 15k civic rather than a 30k+ BMW? Exactly.

Butttt I AM THE EXCEPTION because I'M THE BEST DRIVER. I'm kidding.

but if 30k+ car can save their kids' life, i think parents will care about the safety more than the price, or maybe just me, even not a parent. BMW's crash test isn't that bad, right? i didn't do the reash...

The Civic's crash test isn't all that bad either. The honda civic is cheap but the reason a lot of parents buy it for their kids is because it's a reliable car. So.. you're wrong. the civic is safe too.

well, if you have time, and you know someone that have civic, go there, and use one of your finger to push the hood or fender. Guess what will happen? it will just like push a can sode, but the difference is the car's body still can pop up. now, try some euro cars, not all, but most of them that i know won't have this happen. remember, only one finger.

Sheet metal doesn't protect you in a crash. The hood on my bimmer is easily pushed.

The last civic was a best pick in car crashes and now comes with a stiffer structure and 6 front air bags.

Are you serious? Two of my friends actually drive 05 civics and I've SAT on their hood before. It did not puncture a dent into their car.

I don't know where you're getting your information but its insane. Also, you can't go and compare a 3series with a Civic. They're in 2 different classes.

So what's was your point in this whole discussion?

, anyhow, my point is different car is made for different market, there is no way to have one car that fits to everybody's taste. so it's totally normal for a new driver to drive new car, nothing regarding the price and/or how easy to damage it.

the hood/fenders on the honda are designed with the safety of pedestrians you hit in mind, that's why they're soft

they actually ran a commercial for the accord a few months back bragging about how safe the car was for the pedestrians it hits

it's important for people to learn the value of things as well, and there's a pride in buying your own and not depending on others.
Buying a new car for a new driver may be safer, cooler.... but in the long run I think people learn to appreciate things more when they have to pay for them themselves.

don't get me wrong, a new driver'd be nuts to pass up any new car offered to them but the car desicion is a good chance to teach values to the youngns that parents often screw up.
