Mate, the Coral Red looks awesome. If you are ordering your car YOU MUST GET IT. I very much regret being conservative (concerns with resale etc.) and ordering black.

I'm quite sure AW with CR will sell better than black anyway.

Car ordered!!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the tips and input.

Have just left a deposit on a 2011 135i with the following specs:

Alpine White
Boston Black (this may change to Coral Red next week)
6Spd Manual (I prefer a manual car)
Sunroof
Heated Seats
Business Nav
Harman Kardon Hi Fi
Extended Connectivity
Iphone cradle adapter

Managed to score it for 83.5 driveaway!

Have asked for it to be 2011 compliance plated so don't pick it up til Jan 2011.

Woohoo!

Thanks fellas.

Am pretty stoked and can't wait to get it. Have held off til Jan 2011 compliance as I will be overseas for a couple of months later this year anyway.

To the owners with manual transmission:

Do you boys ever complain of footwell space or the 3 pedals. I only ever got to test drive an auto and it had plenty of room down there for my size 13 flippers. Fairly certain I should be right! (I guess I probably should have had that sorted prior to signing!)

Wel, haven't got mine yet, but insisted on finding a manual to drive before signing. Foot room was fine, better than my two MX-5s, but then I don't wear clown shoes, so YMMV.

Cheers,
Alf

I took a mates manual 135i for a quick spin last night and found I had plenty of room in the footwell. All Good!

Hi SR32

I drove the 135 today, I am also an R32 owner with a lease due to expire in December. I am looking at a Black/Red Coral car with Prof Nav, Harman Kardon, Sunroof, front sensors and DCT gearbox. BMW Sydney could not do better than 95k, I tried that figure with Canterbury and they claimed they would make a loss at that price. How did you manage to get over 10k off that price!! OK, I admit I have 3.5k of gearbox. If I could get the car under $90k, I would order tomorrow. Value of car is over 100k at the moment

the 1 series also seems to have a massive depreciation problem, I have loved every minute of my R32, I got fleet discount when I purchased it and I have lost 25k in the 3 years I have owned it. The Golf R is just not the same

Hey Marc,

I have black metallic / coral red car with Pro nav, sunroof, poplar and i have a invoice for $86k ----- I would call Charles Barron at North Shore he may be able to help. I did have EPP though.

Oh i wish i had the DCT, but from what i remember this was only $1500 upgrade from the auto.

When I checked the deprecation on the 135 was pretty good compared to other cars, mainly due to available cars.

I guess that's a bit of BS for you .

I know depreciation seems to be worst than other BMWs I owned - may be it's just getting close to the end of the life cycle?

I would expect at least 10% discount off list price in the current environment, maybe more if you have some high margin options like the nav and stereo. Keep on shopping around and pushing the dealers until you get the price you want. The key is to tell them that you're prepared to leave a deposit there and then if they give you the right price - if they think you're just going to shop their offer then they'll never give you their bottom line.

Otherwise like 135BANDIT I bought my car from Charles Barron at North Shore and managed to get a bit more than 11% off a car with no options other than metallic. Take a look at the other thread on avoiding the dealers' games for some more tips on negotiation.

I didn't think that it was that bad compared to some others, probably because it's the new car bargain of the BMW range at the moment. Even the oldest cars from 2008 with 30-40k kms that would have sold for say $80-85k new are still fetching low $60s.

By using the red book cars guide - which shows the price when new and current resale price. A simple math calc will give you the deprecation, always use the lowest resale figure to get accurate results.

I did a review of the 135 vs M3 and the 1er actually came out on top.

previous post
Also redbook stats show that a 2008 M3 depreciated quicker than a 2 door 335 - not a great endorsement for resale values of M series cars. The 135 is holding up due to limits on supply IMHO.

NEW RESALE
335 $111,950.00 $85,800.00 77%
M3 $170,201.00 $121,240.00 71%
135 $72,230.00 $64,600.00 89%

Hi All

The 2 dealers that I spoke to both said there was no margin in the options and that the overall margin on the entire car is only around 5k.I cannot see that is a viable business if the margin is so small. I am after a good deal and could not care less where I end up ordering the car from. I can get 7% on the golf R and thats a fantastic value for money car

For the right price, I would be happy to leave a deposit and order the car. Golf R's are now in short supply with the quantity of orders that have gone in, I can get a 135 tomorrow if I want one

Ultimately I think you need to decide whether you want a Golf R or a 135i. They are very different cars, but both superb and great value.

The dealers are BSing you if they tell you there is no margin on the options. There is HUGE margin on the options for BMW and they definitely share this with the dealer. Also, 5k margin on the whole car is definitely viable business. If my calcs were correct, my dealer made 2k on my sale (plus whatever BMW incentives may have applied). Remember that the dealers also make money on your trade if you have one, and particularly the finance, insurance, tinting and paint protection if you arrange it through them.

As I said, follow the advice in the other thread about how to get the best discount - it will take some legwork but you'll get there in the end.

I wouldn't be surprised if dealers made more on servicing than sales. I actually asked the guy I bought mine off if they got trailing comissions on servicing, he laughed and said "I wish".

Thanks Taipan

Correct, both are good cars. The 135 is ahead but needs to be a reasonable price for what it is to minimise the ridiculous amount of Tax on the car. Seems that 85k is acheivable. Has anyone seen the Terra colour leather? looks nice against the Space Grey in the on line configurator

Spec will be as follows

135i
Space Grey
Coral Red or Terra leather
Poplar wood
DCT, Prof Nav, Harmon Kardon, Front PDC, voice regognition, sunroof

RRP incl on roads, $100,616 (NSW)
