If it is M2 I am OK. It is the best as I would want the 1 Series Coupé and Convertible to be named 2 Series, and 3 Series Coupé and Convertible to be named 4 Series. Just sad there will not be any M version of the 1 Series Hatch will will have to be called M1, unless they call all (x) Series, B(x). For example 1 Series they call B1, 3 Series tehy call B3, and then just ad an M like Z4 M and X6 M. In this way M version of 1 Series Hatch wil be called B1 M.

That makes ZERO sense IMO. Who cares if thats what the 1er was suppose to be called. Fact is that it wasn't. It would be beyond ridiculous to the "2" in there.

I mentioned that yesterday. M1-C or M1 Coupe would definitely help us differentiate it from the sports car. Plus, we could still call it an M1 without being stoned. They had an M Roadster so how about an M1 Coupe?

No, M1 Coupé is M1 so as M3 Coupé, Convertible, Sedan or even eventual Wagon are M3. M2 makes sense. Maybe when the new 1 Series comes out, the "old" 1 Coupé and Convertible will maybe be called 2 Series. The X3 naming also changed from X3 3.0d to X3 xDrive30d.

man, I hope as much focus has been put into the actual engine, suspension and overall performance. To me, the name is not a big deal, as long as the Motorsport division does this car right and doesn't half ass it or dumb it down because they are afraid of cannibalizing the M3 sales.
Just make a car you can once again call, "the ultimate driving machine." Not the "pretty good driving machine but we didn't want to out do ourselves." As for me, I love my 135i and I would have to be some-kinda WOW'd to part with my car. I think the 135i is under rated to begin with. Let's hope BMW can make me eat my words. (fingers crossed)

I could live with that! Not sure how true it is though. They already have those(X5M and X6M).

Not sure either, but it sounds better than 1M or M2--especially M2 which makes no sense at all, unless they plan on changing the 1 series to the 2 series . Scottie, where are you?

If it's M Turbo, I could live with it too. Makes it sound very unique.

I find it rather odd, than in the last few days, every domain name that has anything to do with M1 is being registered... newm1.com, newm1.net, newbmwm1 etc... seems odd??

I think M2 may be used for the Z2 4cyl due out sometime soon. If there is a M version of that Z2 I think it would be called M2. Just thinking out loud.

I'd be okay with ///M Turbo, but I don't see it happening since all of the ///M cars are going turbo. M1C gets my vote...

Real car enthusiasts aren't going to spout that nonsense. It's sad really

The first real "M" car was the 1973-1974 2002 Turbo. The M1 came later in 1978. I say the 2002 turbo is the first "real" M car as it had the special engine, bodywork, interior, suspension, etc you expect in a real "M" car. The striping was even in "M" colors.
With all of the 2002 stuff hinted at, the accessory program heavily retro, I too think the name will be "M turbo". Tii is ruled out by me as it was mentioned before their would be a NA tii in the next generation 1. Why would they start a new model they do not plan on continuing or radically changing? I like M turbo better than M1 too. I have always thought the M1 was sort of overrated. 0-60 in 5.7 seconds! My old Pantera would out run one. It did have light weight and I am sure it was fun to drive, but have always felt the term "Supercar" was a little too strong. It was no Countach or Muria. M turbo keeps the traditional M1 folks happy and is still a M name that makes some sense. It also sounds pretty cool IMO. |

I read somewhere (here I think) that you'd have the option of reversed turbo script on the front spoiler...with the side stripes, very 2002 Turbo-ish Only problem is, 1973 was a long time ago, and the word "TURBO" is written large on Vacuum cleaners, food mixers, vibrators...it's kind of lost it's impact The M1 was a supercar though, for it's time at least. 5.7 to 60 was pretty damn fast back then, and zero to sixty is not even an eighth of the story - stuff like the Countach and Pantera were indeed faster, but if I was gonna drive from Stuttgart to Stockholm, and I was a cool rich 70s dude, I'd have took the Bimmer every time |
